Heading Out for Mountain Goat

I am anxiously gathering things as I prepare for my Mountain Goat hunt here in Utah. I drew a once-in-a-lifetime tag and will be heading to the Uintahs in the morning. Today it rained and snowed so I am a little worried about the weather, but is supposed to clear up in the next day or so. I will report and let you know how things turn out. I am going up with two of my brothers (Rob and Alan) and my nephew Colton. So it is a family Do-It-Yourself event as we load up and head for the high country.

These once-in-a-lifetime tags are a little nerve-racking!

My friend Gavin Lovell from Wyoming emailed me these goats pictures today to get me pumped up. He ran into this goat hunting the high country of Wyoming. Hopefully I can get as close as they did!

The Moose Bull from Montana Goes Down

Some of you are familiar with a big bull elk that has been running around Montana that carries some incredible mass and palmation on its antlers. I got a phone call today confirming that this great bull was taken by an archery hunter. The bull is a 8×7 typical with a lot of palmation around the royal points. The bull has been green scored at 420 gross and 400 net typical and could end up being one of the top typical archery bulls. Regardless of how the official score pans out, this bull is truly a great one…especially with a bow!

There is an incredible story that goes along with this bull and the persistence and luck of the hunter is amazing. More information will be coming about this spectacular bull.
