I live on the reservation in which this bull was shot and also worked at the Recreation and Wildlife Department on the San Carlos Reservation. Anyone and Everyone who thinks that the Elk are on Steriods at birth are crazy. Every animal we have here are at free roaming. They are not farmed. The Elk roam in from different areas depending on the Climate (weather) change, so who is to say that we put Steriods in them when there is a potential chance that the animals could be taken in a different area.

I recently moved to utah and lived in S.C. all my life until this point and just think this that everyone who think the elk are on steroids are crazy., I return to the rez to find sheds and came across a couple that make people look twice but what people don't know is that we were given this as a repayment for all our homelands taken from us to "foreign" settlers. Why can't people just be happy that atleast there was one person who was lucky one day in a once in alifetime experience. We have suffered enough insult by being locked up on a reservation what is 25 k -30k for a tag compared to acres not sold but stolen'!!!! We know that what we have is all we got and it is well managed you can't even drive atvs on the terrain. we don'.t destroy land where the elk roam freely. It is a gift to go to point of pines and early in the morning and hear bulging that is what I love about the reservation. So please quit hating we have enough of that and be greatful and maybe on day the opportunity will come your way. My husband hunts public land in utah and klilled a 406 bull we have seen an old mountain lion kill and the elk shed spread was at least 50 inches but too bad it is illegal to have. It was also a 10x9 don't know how muich it would've scored but they are out there.

77.....get real.....trees are not a fence...the elk can come and go as they please....they may be babysat to keep an eye on them but they aren't tied up to a tree. i think they call that being a good guide and scouting.from my understanding you are required to be guided on all reservations unless you are a tribal member.....you cant really think that acreage compares to a fence...if thats the case then all elk are surrounded by water if you go far enough....fenced in? no.....

me being from the oregon coast and my brother being the world record holder for roosevelt elk archery...i can tell you with the utmost confidence as a bowhunter and good judge of elk that i have seen the holy grail of bulls.my educated guess as to the size is over 500 inches.i had this bull dead to rights at 10 yds waiting for the turn of death.that sucker backed out and then wheeled and was gone.smart bull is an understatement.that was two years ago ....hes still up there in that brush in the hills of the oregon coast range...imagine how big he might be now

I live in AZ. This bull is a Record bull no doubt, But fair chase. I have heard stories otherwise. The first person taken out to shoot at this bull was an archer. He missed, so I have been told.
Fair chase?
You buy a tag for a ungodly amount, your are given a guide, your are taken out to a herd with a large bull, you are told by the guide which bull to shoot. You can not go out without the guide on the Reservation.
Sound like a high fence to you.
The only diffrance between a Ranch, and a Reservation, is the acrage. If you have enough acrage, you really don"t need a high fence.

I shed hunt and scout bulls about15 miles from where this shipsey bull was taken on white mans land, AZ is home of the giants and this bull proves it. 400+ class sheds are common near and on the San Carlos and White Mountain Apache reservations. The natives frequently sell their sheds for next to nothing to only a couple local dealers their forced to sell to.The truth is that 500class Wild bull elk reside in Arizona, this especially holds true on the reservations. They have strict trophy management and little to no harrassment by their keepers, the proud Apache Tribes. There are no High Fences, But the Elk know their Safe on the res'pretty much .And the res' are huge! A 500 bull is no different than a 300 inch buck, theyre out their. It's a shame this bull isn't recognized!
