New Record Muley for British Columbia?
There has been an incredible mule deer recently taken in British Columbia that might just be the new record typical mule deer. I spoke with the hunter a few days ago and the green score is an amazing 218 2/8 gross and 208 3/8 net typical. The current record for British Columbia is 203 2/8 net B&C. The buck was taken November 16th so it will be a little while before it can be officially scored since it has to wait the 60-day drying period. The buck is 28-inches wide, but the stand-out feature on this buck is the huge G-2 point on the right side. It is almost 22-inches tall! However, the left side G-2 is 7-inches shorter. That makes up a big sum of the 10 inches of total deductions because of the shorter G-2 on the left side.
Can you image how big this buck would have been if the left G-2 would have matched the right side? This would probably be the second biggest typical in the world if that was the case. What an awesome mule deer, and what a pretty typical buck. There are a handful of pictures that are starting to circulate around the Internet of the rack of this buck being held by different people in a Sporting Goods Store from B.C.
UPDATE: (03/02/06) - This buck has been officially scored and I have been fortunate to obtain a copy of the score sheet. What a spectacular typical mule deer. The official score is 219 5/8 gross and 209 0/8 net B&C. This easily makes it the new British Columbia typical record and the largest typical mule deer taken in 2005.
