King’s New Gift Catalog 2005

King's Outdoor World Hunting and Gift Catalog 2005

It is that time of year again. Our new King’s Hunting and Gift Catalog is out and Christmas orders are pouring in. This is always the peak of our busy time around here at King’s Outdoor World. In between all of the orders that are going out the door, we try and still get a magazine out the door among many other things.

We just launched our new On-Line store. Our new store has been in the works for a long time. Why does a new on-line store take so long to launch? That is a good question. Let me give you a little rundown of what we has kept us so busy on our new store. This is not just an on-line store. What we did is take a base shopping cart software program (open source code) and totally customized it. For us, we not only take on-line orders but also call-in orders at 800-4347-6897 and check orders mailed in.

In the past we had to manage two different order sources (on-line and phone orders) and then merge them together by doing a lot of extra data entry, etc. We also had the limitaions of being on a local network with our database. This caused problems with our separate warehouse locations. We knew we could not continue with this type of system and needed something more streamlined and would offer better customer service and managment. We decided to come up with one central database. However, this would be a web based database system that would tie in the on-line shopping cart and our phone orders into one main database on our web server. By doing so, all of our information and orders would be controlled from one place and could be accessed and updated at any location.

Therefore, our basic on-line store has a lot of custom back-end programming that we are excited about. I apologize right now to all - there are still a few bugs to work out. This new system will continually be a work in progress as we have many great features we will be adding in the future. Our whole goal is to improve our customer service and provide the best shopping exprience for all, especially our club members and Hunting Illustrated subscribers.

Current subscribers can now login to their account, instantly get their 10% discount, manage their address, check on order status and even check the number of issues they have left and when it will expire. I will be honest with you, our new on-line store still looks like a cookie-cutter web site. If you know us much, cookie cutter stuff just doesn’t cut it around here. We are actually working on a new template design for our new store that will be launched in the next few weeks. This will give it a brand new look that will be more professional and what you would expect from King’s Outdoor World.

This is just another phase of what we are doing to completely revamp our web sites. We are doing it one at a time (and it is taking some time), but this re-vamp of our web sites is very exciting as it will give us the foundation to pump much more content to all of you.

So for now, check out our new on-line store. See what is availabe in our ShadowCamo clothing or buy your buddy that King’s Calendar he is hoping to get for Christmas.

Happy Holidays

Holiday Tour Stop December 05

King's Tour Rig

Our Factory Reps Bret Pangos and Todd Munford are on the road right now for a good old fashion Holday Tour Stop. They are making a big run right now and will be returning back to their families for Christmas. The King’s Outdoor World Tour Rig is making a big loop down through Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and even into Missouri (we are crossing our fingers on the weather). I hope some of you will have a chance to see the rig stopped somewhere and you can say hi to Bret and Todd and get a first hand look at some of our products.

They are stopping off at some of our dealer locations and helping with some publicity and PR of our ShadowCamo and King’s Calendars. Good luck guys and return home safe. I will post a complete report on their trip when they return.

Trapshoot Mohawk

Trapshoot Mohawk Dude

I was at a trapshoot competition with some friends on Saturday just having some fun. There were about 10 teams of six shooters each. I tagged along to have some fun. I couldn’t resist posting these photos I took of one of the shooters on another team. This guy is classic. I will keep my words to a minimum since a picture is a worth a thousands words. So true.

New Record Muley for British Columbia?

There has been an incredible mule deer recently taken in British Columbia that might just be the new record typical mule deer. I spoke with the hunter a few days ago and the green score is an amazing 218 2/8 gross and 208 3/8 net typical. The current record for British Columbia is 203 2/8 net B&C. The buck was taken November 16th so it will be a little while before it can be officially scored since it has to wait the 60-day drying period. The buck is 28-inches wide, but the stand-out feature on this buck is the huge G-2 point on the right side. It is almost 22-inches tall! However, the left side G-2 is 7-inches shorter. That makes up a big sum of the 10 inches of total deductions because of the shorter G-2 on the left side.

Can you image how big this buck would have been if the left G-2 would have matched the right side? This would probably be the second biggest typical in the world if that was the case. What an awesome mule deer, and what a pretty typical buck. There are a handful of pictures that are starting to circulate around the Internet of the rack of this buck being held by different people in a Sporting Goods Store from B.C.

UPDATE: (03/02/06) - This buck has been officially scored and I have been fortunate to obtain a copy of the score sheet. What a spectacular typical mule deer. The official score is 219 5/8 gross and 209 0/8 net B&C. This easily makes it the new British Columbia typical record and the largest typical mule deer taken in 2005. You will be able read the full story and see some great photos in our upcoming “Best of 2005″ issue of Hunting Illustrated.

Utah Has a New State Record Typical Elk

This bull was big news this fall as rumors started flying about a monster typical bull taken with a rifle on the Pahvant here in Utah. This 7×6 bull separates itself from the pack due to its enormous front tines and incredible mass. Early green scores put this bull anywhere from 426 gross, 415 net to 420 gross and 410 net typical B&C. However, talking with the hunter a few weeks ago, Lloyd Jacobson was not quit sure just how the green scores would hold up on his potential state record bull elk.

Well, I am here to announce that Utah officially has a new state record typical bull. In 2003, Brian Gilson took not only the new state record typical elk at the time, but the first 400 net typical bull ever for the state of Utah. Brian’s great 6×6 bull elk scores 414 6/8 gross and 402 4/8 net B&C. However, his great bull has been surpassed in 2005.

Lloyd’s self-guided hunt in South-Central Utah paid off. His bull’s official score after the 60-day mandatory drying period is 421 6/8 gross and 408 4/8 net typical B&C. The bull nicknamed “Iverson” is a 7×6 and has a small abnormal point coming off from the right-side royal point. What a giant!

You want to see more and read more? The full story and many great photos of this record bull elk will be in the pages of an upcoming issue of Hunting Illustrated Magazine.

Are there other bulls bigger that have been taken still? Is this the only record to be broken here in Utah this year? Stay tuned…

A Great Colorado Ram Has Passed

John Legnard sitting next to the legendary sheep from Colorado

For those of you in Colorado, you may be familiar with a truly remarkable sheep hanging out around Pueblo. This monarch ram was recently found dead of natural causes. John Legnard of the Rocky Mountain Bighorn Society was very familiar with this ram and had the chance to see him up close at the Colorado Division of Wildlife (CDOW) offices. Here are some comments made by John about this great ram and some photos that he was able to take of the ram shortly after being recovered. Thanks to John for letting me post this information and his photos. What an amazing sheep!

A GREAT Colorado ram has passed

To all fellow sheep enthusiasts,

The CDOW informed me this afternoon that the great ram that had been seen near Pueblo recently had died this morning.

He was VERY thin and probably died of natural causes and old age. He was at least 12 years old. While I am sad to see him go, I am glad he was recovered. He is in the possession of the CDOW and will hopefully be preserved and displayed for all to see.

On his way to Ft Collins for a necropsy, I was able to see him first hand up close at the CDOW Headquarters. I’m sorry for the in-the-back-of-the-truck photos, but that’s all that was allowed. I have many pictures of him alive and will share them on the RMBS website and Newsletter in the near future.

For those who will ask….I do not know his score and will wait for an official B&C score to post any numbers. It is safe to say one of the largest rams ever in Colorado.

No matter what he scores he is truly one of the finest and most unique rams ever seen, harvested or found dead in Colorado. I’m sure he has passed on his genes.
