34 Point Whitetail Deer

April 27th, 2006 David King - King's Outdoor World

Scott Leuthauser with his 34 point monster whitetail buck

I just received an email from Scott Leuthauser which included this photo of his great whitetail deer. One look and I knew I had to share this one asap. What a great buck and the number of points clustered on each side is incredible. Congratulations Scott! Here is what Scott included in his email:

Here is a picture for your photo gallery of a deer I killed with a muzzleloader on Nov. 14, 2005. It scored 208 gross, 201 net, an official Boone & Crockett. It scored as 34 point. The width is: inside spread 19 1/8, outside spread 27 5/8. It was killed in St. Louis County, Missouri.

Thank you,
Scott Leuthauser

UPDATE (11/3/07): Even though this post has been posted for some time, this post has been getting a ton of hits lately and so a lot of new people are just starting to see Scott’s great whitetail. This is mostly due to search engine traffic hitting this particular page. With that said, Scott’s wife emailed me realizing as well the continued interest in this post and sent me this other photo.

This is a photo not only of this great 34-point buck, but also some of the other great whitetail bucks from Scott’s collection.

    hey Terrance,
This isnt no photoshop trick. Quit thinkin this aint real because This buck is the real thing. I’ve seen this buck in person and held the rack. Its my dad’s cousin. So next time, when you are using your photoshop, remember this guy actually put out the hard work into getting a deer like this and didnt use the computer. And by the way, this isnt even his first big buck and he didnt get “lucky”

Yea its real. You should see the 13, the 10, the 16, and the 15. Theres a reason he killed that deer and ranked among the top 5 in missouri big bucks.

  • 5. Scott Leuthauser Jr  |  June 1st, 2006 at 1:48 pm

He claims to be the number one black powder hunter in missouri. HAs four deer ranked in the top 10 with black powder.

  • 14. George Mercer  |  November 22nd, 2006 at 10:38 pm

First off Congratulations on your buck Scott. I used to think that was a once in lifetime buck but in your case maybe it isn’t. As i read above it may be possible you have some other large bucks you’ve shot, and i was just thinking it might be a good idea to send pictures into Dave and see if he could post them with this one. It would be great to see your other bucks. Once again congrats!

  • 16. T-Bone  |  February 15th, 2007 at 9:33 pm

Great Buck, That would be a once and a lifetime deer around where I come from! Is Missouri even known for having big bucks like that?

  • 17. dezarn  |  August 27th, 2007 at 7:35 am

To the kid who says it wasnt luck doesnt understand hunting…luck is nothing more than the meeting in time of preparation and opportunity. Anytime we harvest anything there is a great amount of “luck” involved.

  • 18. andrew strait  |  September 14th, 2007 at 10:41 am

nice buck scott! i shot a 24 point n.missouri whitetail that my taxiderm scored it as a 2093/4. but not through boone and crockett and no papers. would like to get scored and registered. can someone help me out? does someone want to buy it??

  • 36. Brian  |  December 6th, 2007 at 6:08 pm

You must not be a very avid hunter if you think that is photoshop work. A 30 point whitetail was just killed a couple of weeks ago during the second shotgun season here in St. Clair County in Illinois. 34 points is very realistic. Nice buck man.

  • 37. JON  |  December 11th, 2007 at 8:13 pm

That thing is a monster if i killed one that big down in East Texas. Someone would accuse me of using photo shop even if they saw it in person. Well any way that deer was a HOSS. How much do you pay for that deer lease? Or do you own it? Anyway great deer, and I hope one day i will kill one that big.

  • 38. steve  |  December 14th, 2007 at 8:42 pm

that’s a nice buck, and i’d also add a great feelin’ to walk up and lay your eyes upon one that people call a buck of a life time. I personally think deer in general in missouri are really startin’ to grow some respectable bucks in alot of it’s counties

  • 39. darrell  |  December 16th, 2007 at 1:32 pm

    yes sean j.
I might want to buy it how much lets talk I would like
to see photos of your buck, let me know.
    darrell

  • 40. Leuty boy  |  January 3rd, 2008 at 12:10 pm

Has anyone ever heard the story about Scott finding a set of antlers in the woods and then shooting the deer they came from w an identical rack? its crazy.

  • 41. cuddy1849  |  January 21st, 2008 at 1:34 am

that is one nice buck….good job buddy!!!!

  • 42. Gino  |  February 7th, 2008 at 3:26 pm

Just happened to be browsing and came accross this photo. I must say I am always proud when I hear and see success stories by ethical hunters. By the way it appears to me this guy does his homework and lets other deer walk. Good job and congrats! And as you probably already know the true sportsman must listen to all the want to be’s and (so called) hunters who hate it when a plan comes together. So for those of you who want to get up out of bed @ 9am & stroll into the woods smelling like breakfast keep on wishing and we will keep on killing the big ones.

  • 43. Josh Corbin  |  April 4th, 2008 at 8:43 am

Hay man the deer in your collection are something to be proud of. Don’t let anyone like Terrance tell you otherwise. I’ve been hunting for only about 7 years now. I know what you have to go through even to see deer like yours. Some people just don’t understand.

  • 44. Butch Neaveill  |  August 6th, 2008 at 1:12 pm

Use to be a guy that lived up the street from me .. Has shot plenty of nice deer in the past. Heard about this one and looked up on the net.. Nice one Scott
