July/August 2006 Issue of Hunting Illustrated on Newsstands July 18th
We have a great issue in store for you. It is our annual Hunting Forecast issue and we put together a pretty unique feature. Our Forecast breakdown gives you state by state information throughout the West on what to expect for the upcoming 2006 hunting season. How are the herds doing? What are the range conditions? Plus a unique “Ask Fish & Game” question and answer for each state and more.
There is no question our cover is going to get noticed. Can you believe the beautiful photo that Dan Evans captured from his 2005 Nevada archery elk hunt. This is one of the best kill shots I have come across for elk. Perfect angle, animal is set up just right, monster bull, bright blue sky, photo taken vertically, and taken from a 8 megapixel digital camera to boot. This is the first photo we have used on the cover that we have not had to expand to make it fit. If you want to see what a great kill shot of a bull elk should look like, here is an example.
We also declare the winners of our ShadowCamo photo contest. I will be making another post with the winning names and photos and all of gear they are going to receive.
What else do we have in this issue? In addition to Dan Evans’ 400-inch Nevada archery typical bull elk (potential state record), we have a state record muzzleloader bull from Utah that scores over 423 gross B&C. Last year was the year for huge typical mule deer. We have the biggest typical buck from 2005 in this issue. A monster mule deer scoring 210 3/8 net B&C taken by Jamie Gerein.
