Scoring a Muzzleloader Elk

Like usual I was pretty busy today still trying to get caught up from the past two weeks. However, when someone calls asking if they can bring up the elk they just took and see if I could score it up for them….there is always time for that.
Jake Smith from Utah just put down this very fine 6×6 point elk with his muzzleloader. He brought his elk to the office today and I was able to put a tape to it. The bull has great fronts with the left G2 measuring over 20-inches and an impressive 48 5/8-inch inside spread. The weak backs and short beams kept him from going over the 350 mark. The right G4 was broken or he would have been pushing the 340 mark. I scored him out at 334 4/8 gross B&C. Jake smoked him in the rain with his muzzleloader and has a great trophy on his hands. The bull will easily make it into the Longhunter record book. Nice job Jake.

The bull had good mass all the way to the end

Here is a nice shot showing the great tine length on the G2 point
