This was definetly not a "ranch bull" or pen raised or whatever anyone who is jeolous of this bull can come up with. I have hunted with Mark many times, It is a first class operation that gives hunters a chance at trophy class animals in probably some of the best ranch leases in Montana. World record or not it is a great animal and way to go Walter for gettin after it at age 73.

Its a great bull. But you don't know if you can belive anyone anymore. Bulls are being bought from ranches and then released into the Wild but they are still ranch bulls. I still consider the true world record bull B&C to be that big ol pig killed in Colorado by John Plute in 1899, there is too much of this pin raised crap anymore that you don't know if bulls are wild or pin raised.

[...] In the post Potential World Record Archery Bull from 2006 I talked about the potential world record archery bull from Montana that was shot in September of 2006. The outfitter to Walter Tate found our Blog and ended up posting a comment. Mark Baumeister of Mark’s Montana Trophy Hunts was gracious enough to send in a photo of this awesome bull for me to post. For more details check out the previous post here.
I would like to address my comment to Don Reed's concerns in his earlier posted comment. The area of Montana where this bull was harvested is "almost" entirely private land. Actually, FWP regulations state " access limited" when applying for any special permit in this area. I own Mark's Montana Trophy Hunts, and I guided Walter Tate on his hunt. I believe that the reason eastern/south central Montana produces some giant bull elk is BECAUSE of private land. There is "limited" public land accessible in this area but, hunting pressure pushes them onto restricted areas. Rest assured, that for a bull elk to grow to the proportions of Walter's bull, it takes several years and private land ranches allowed that to happen.

There is an article and pictures of walter and his bull in the Nov/Dec issue of Eastmans' Bowhunting Journal

Looks like montana doesn't produce all the monster bulls, just the top monster bulls!
