The Big City Buck Hit By a Car
December 8th, 2006 David King - King's Outdoor World

Dave Peterson with Moose Hollow Outdoors took a great photograph of a herd of velvet bucks on a ridge overlooking Salt Lake City, Utah (see image below). There were some very nice bucks in that group, especially the far right buck. I just got word that this great buck was hit by a car. That is pretty unfortunate. I know there were some hopeful hunters hoping they would be able to get lucky this year - especially on the late season archery hunt. At least we get a good look at him. The above picture is a Utah officer with the buck after it was hit.
For those interested in obtaining the “City Bucks” print, Here is some information:

I would like to see the damage on the vehecle that hit the 12 point. It’s to bad that magnifcient buck had to go the way he did. Does anybody know if they scored this deer? That picture of the bucks overlooking the city is pretty unique. Good luck, to those who have a late season archery tag! With high hopes I wish to bag me a buck of that caliber.

Speaking of mule bucks getting hit by cars.. it drives me crazy that in Utah the sheriffs/troopers don’t carry tags for people to take the animals home. I’m from NY and we’ve filled many winter time freezers with meat from auto accident victims (if the troopers are on scene they’ll tag the animal and let you have it.)
Further more, in Wasatch county where we live they let the carcasses rot on the side of the road for weeks/months. Pretty lame they cant hire a county employee to at least pick them up and discard the remains.

Pictures of this buck have been floating around on email for about the last month. In one of the posts it said the deer was scored over at Sportswarehouse in Midvale Utah with a gross of 225

Re: comment #3 - Since this is a mule deer, you would call that a nice 6×6. I do agree, though, it is a beauty.

Same Buck Avery - if you go to moosehollowoutdoors.com and look at the deer pictures, scroll to the bottom and you’ll see a nice close up of the deer that is on the far right of the picture with SLC behind it. Definitely the same rack than the Officer is holding. Great animal, sad it had to go this way.
