I just received this exciting press release from Polaris. The side by side market just got more interesting. Yamaha has put together a great sport unit with their Rhino 660. Polaris has now countered that and even taken it a step further in the performance side with their new Ranger RZR 800 EFI. Here is their official press release.

See more photos below.

Introducing a RANGER Like No Other

RANGER RZR Offers Razor Sharp Side-by-Side Performance

Starting today, the game has changed. Introducing RANGER RZR, the first trail capable, side-by-side vehicle that screams down the trails as the fastest accelerating and lightest side-by-side; navigates through tight, twisty terrain with ease; and tackles mud, rocks and anything else nature throws its way for the ultimate off-road experience.

“RANGER RZR was designed to appeal to a wide variety of riders,” said Matt Homan, general manager of RANGER. “Avid trail riders will appreciate RANGER RZR’s ability to go anywhere an ATV can go; hunters will enjoy the ability to navigate to the most remote and extreme hunting spots while hauling enough gear for two; and side-by-side sport enthusiasts will find RANGER RZR’s light weight, cornering ability, acceleration and top speed appealing.”

At 50 inches wide, RANGER RZR is the only trail capable side-by-side in its class. At 945 lbs, it is the lightest side-by-side with the lowest cage height, compared to its competitors, which ensures true trail accessibility. RANGER RZR also boasts a true all-wheel drive (AWD) system that automatically engages when the rider needs more forward traction and reverts back to 2WD automatically when AWD is no longer needed.

Built with a patented design that places the engine behind the seat, RANGER RZR has the lowest center of gravity of all the sport side-by-sides for unmatched off-road responsiveness. Riders will find themselves sitting at least seven inches lower than they would in competitive side-by-side vehicles for unparalleled handling and ground hugging performance. For optimal handling on any terrain, RANGER RZR has nine inches of travel in the front, 9.5 inches in the rear and 10 inches of ground clearance due to its double A-arm front suspension with an exclusive, front anti-sway bar and a rolled independent rear suspension (IRS). For comfort, RANGER RZR also sports the best ergonomics in its class, including tilt steering, and adjustable hand rails and seats.

Powered by a liquid-cooled, even-firing Polaris Big Bore 800 Twin EFI engine, RANGER RZR is the fastest accelerating side-by-side with the highest horsepower in its class; accelerating to 35 MPH in four seconds, and topping out at 55 MPH. This power coupled with RANGER RZR’s unique design and smaller stature creates a vehicle that delivers razor sharp side-by-side performance.

RANGER RZR is no slouch when it comes handling the tough tasks. With a cargo bed rated for 300 lbs with 12 tie-down points, 1500 lb. towing capacity, under-hood storage and a myriad of PURE Polaris accessories including Lock & Ride, cabs and cargo systems, you have all the utility you need.

Offered in green and red, RANGER RZR will be available at Polaris dealerships in early summer, with a MSRP of $9,999 (US) and $13,999 (CAN).

    Rhino killer!

  • 2. Yamaha Tim  |  January 25th, 2007 at 6:25 pm

It will only kill a Rhino if it falls off a cliff and lands on it…a tall cliff.

  • 3. Tim  |  January 29th, 2007 at 5:31 pm

I don’t know about that lower center of gravity. I don’t want to go fast; I want to go over.

  • 4. Joe Polaris  |  January 30th, 2007 at 2:02 pm

760cc liquid cooled efi VS 660 oil cooled carbed. $9999 Retail vs $9799 retail. It will be a Rhino Killer and a better value!

  • 5. Polaris XP Owner  |  February 1st, 2007 at 10:48 am

This machine will change the face of sideXside vehicles in a big way! Polaris has one up on all the other manfacturers by delivering a class leading full sized Ranger and function specific class leading RZR to fill the needs of everyone. No more bragging about the Rhino being “sportier” than a Ranger. The new RZR shreads the ‘07 Rhino. It will take some serious $$$ for a Rhino owner to get the same performance as a stock RZR. Yamaha should scrap the Rhino and either build a utility vehicle or a sport machine. At this point it really does neiter well anymore. Just my .02

[…] I made an earlier post with some photos of the new Polaris RZR Razor 800 a couple of weeks ago. People are definitely interested in this hot new side by side. I haven’t had a chance to ride one yet, but talking to people who have, they are pretty excited about it. Definitely more sporty than anything else, but is limited on the utility side. It will be interesting to see how the hunting crowd responds to this machine. […]

  • 7. wade  |  February 3rd, 2007 at 11:27 pm

i dont know about the seat height if you were to go through some serious water or mud you might get really soaked.it is a really cool looking machine i am a polaris guy too but it seems polaris might have a problem there with it

  • 8. Rhinoowner times2  |  February 6th, 2007 at 2:52 pm

I have two rhinos and love them, especailly the hot rod 55mph,BUT I WILL HAVE ONE of these,

  • 9. yamaha rhino  |  February 6th, 2007 at 7:40 pm

i am personal owner of two rhinos and i would not take 10 polarises if they were given to me. my buddy has a polaris xp and it breaks down every ride.

  • 10. S. PAVESE  |  February 7th, 2007 at 10:04 am

YOU CANT PUT A BACK SEAT IN THE NEW POLARIS. I WILL KEEP MY RHINO!

  • 11. g2get1  |  February 7th, 2007 at 11:10 pm

Hey no dout the rhino blazed the trail but it looks like this RZR is going up and over yamaha. The only thing sideXside that could compare to this hi-performance wise is the old Honda Odyseys and Pilots. Been waiting for something like this for years, WAY2GO-POLARIS…im sure the rest of the factories with respond too. This could be the begining of a increedible new class!!! especially if they can put a “sno-traxx” system on it and make it legal to ride down snowmobile trails

  • 12. justin wojo  |  February 8th, 2007 at 1:24 pm

i own a 500 efi ranger and that thing started today and its -20 . this is the best machine i have ever owned. i will be buying a razer thow. i will wait for the 2009 models!! i think this is the future of atvs!!!

  • 13. LONNIE S  |  February 8th, 2007 at 6:05 pm

Everything i’ve read so far seems incredible ,although i’m not sure about low center, down here in Fla. we like to add lift and a set of 29.5s, it helps with the high cypress knees.I hope the axles hold up better than the 800 efi atv, that gets alittle expensive,Good Luck Polaris .

  • 14. Jeremy Perkins  |  February 8th, 2007 at 11:13 pm

Don’t look like it can carry all my gear plus a deer out. Own a RHINO with 2500 miles so far. This razor doesn’t look like it will carry the load like the RHINO. Well they had to do something anybody with a brain could see the ranger couldn’t compete at all.

  • 15. Kris  |  February 10th, 2007 at 7:33 pm

Will you be able to attach a snow plow setup up to to the rzr?

  • 16. Sandplayer  |  February 11th, 2007 at 9:50 am

Obviously, the RZR was made for serious desert play. There is a huge sand dune market for these UTV’s and that’s what it looks like Polaris went after. Only time will tell how the RZR will hold up. I have never been a Polaris fan with their ungodly weights, but they may have hit the homerun with this one!!!!!

  • 17. Canaan Smith  |  February 11th, 2007 at 8:42 pm

I don’t think the rzr can compete with the rhino at all

  • 18. Chris  |  February 11th, 2007 at 10:17 pm

“Will you be able to attach a snow plow setup up to to the rzr?”

    Yes.

“Thanks for the link Chris. I’ gonna have to get me a rzr. Those things are sweet!”

    You’re welcome.

  • 21. Robbie  |  February 13th, 2007 at 3:48 pm

All you guys wanting a snow plow or a lot of cargo space, that is what the regular Ranger or Ranger 700 XP is for. Polaris is simply making a utility side by side and a sport side by side. I have had a Ranger since 2001 and have had no problems other than regular maintenance and it cranks and runs EVERY time I turn the key. It has not let me down once. I will be getting one as soon as my dealer can get it and I think some 29.5 Outlaws would look very nice under it.

  • 22. John  |  February 15th, 2007 at 1:18 pm

I think what Robbie is trying to say is that he will need to purchase two rangers so that he can do some work with one and play with the other. If I go up to the cabin in northern MN I’d rather trailer one side x side that will do it all, my RHINO!

  • 23. John  |  February 15th, 2007 at 1:41 pm

They continue to call this the only trail rated side x side. Last time I looked in the State of MN (Birth place of the Ranger RZR) Off Highway Vehicle Regulations, any ATV over 900 lbs. dry weight is classified as a Class 2 ATV and are not allowed on ATV trails. Please correct me if I’m wrong, but this ATV can only be riden on private property and road sides, not ditches or trails. If thats the case wouldn’t you want something you could do some work with!

  • 24. irockcamaro  |  February 17th, 2007 at 11:21 am

It all depends on where you live. Where i live there is nowhere that I cant drive it.If i whanted a rino i would buy a golf cart lol.

  • 25. bassfrad  |  February 17th, 2007 at 12:54 pm

First the rhino is not oil cooled, it is water cooled just like every other big bore.
I think every one is jumping the gun. we need to see it first. I have a rhino, Ive replaced all weak axles, busted the front diff,& the main transmission gear has failed. It has 1500 miles, 250 hr’s & they told me that it needed to be rebuilt (top end). alls im saying is ill try any thing thats better than this.

  • 26. Sly  |  February 18th, 2007 at 1:02 pm

Proud Yamaha owner,racked-up 12 135 kms on the Yamaha with no trany or engine problems, seriousley,I havent seen any other make do the same without engine rebuilding and serious $$$ spent,When,or if i should say Polaris is able to do the same i MIGHT think of getting one, but i doubt it.The Yamaha is bullet-proof,nothing like it out there!!!!!!!!!!

  • 27. Rzr  |  February 19th, 2007 at 7:45 pm

The Michigan offroad community rudely slammed the door on Polaris’ attempt a few years ago to push through House Bill 5343; which would have widened the trail system to 60″ at the largest maintained system in the nation. This bill was killed in less than 26 hours by a “22,000 member” representative council that to this day remain anonymous and who shepherd any and all of our orv issues behind long closed doors.(which is why Michigan has more trails; yet traditionally by far the lowest participant rate in the atv and side-by-side category nationwide for its size. They’ve simply scared everybody away with their arrogance for decades now).

I see the Rzr as oh so sweet revenge for the rude and shabby treatment that Polaris received here for simply trying to create a true multi-use trail system out of thousands of miles in shameful disrepair.
When you have orv leaders pointing to ‘raped’ atv trails suddenly deemed as irrepairable and which should be shut down for ’study’….pointing to the same trails as ‘much to costly’ to bust out 5 inches on either side to 60 inches…you can plainly see what Polaris was up against.

I look at this machine as the single most groundbreaking piece of machinery since the 3-wheeler; as young, old and disabled citizens of this nation will FINALLY have acces to the land that they have been arrogantly been kept off of for all these decades using a 50″ width limitation that nobody but Polaris ever had the GUTS to challenge.

And by gosh I’ll be proud to own one for no other reason than a proud equal access-related history that (IMO) far to few are aware of and should be.

  • 28. bassfrad  |  February 20th, 2007 at 6:28 am

We work in SAE in america. 12,135 km = 7540.339 miles.
Sure! With an average speed of 15MPH thats = to 754.0339 hr’s.
Not sure the decompression valve could handle that.
But Ive also heard that polaris cams really suck.

  • 29. sly  |  February 20th, 2007 at 7:23 am

I agree with bassfrad, every one is jumping the gun.And yes the Yamaha does need some improvments, but as i said in my first comment i have 12 135kms on the Yamaha, with no engine work besides 1 oil seal, changed, nothin’ expensive. But the more i read and see of it, the polaris looks like a fun machine to ride.At first glance i see that there’s not much cargo space compared to other models, not to appeling for hunters, but i’d stll like to try one out,and whait to see if it’s as durable as Yamaha before thinking of buying one.It is a good lookin’ machine though.

  • 30. Terry Alan Craven  |  February 20th, 2007 at 12:00 pm

All the hoopla about speed, low center of gravity, blah blah blah. This RZR is still just “Butt Ugly” I think polaris should go back and revamp it so a guy will want to be seen in one. I still want a Rhino, but would consider the RZR if it looked better. And of course there is still the chance Yamaha will release the Rhino with the 700 in it.
Yamaha still stands way ahead on reliability, something Polaris has never come to grips with.

  • 31. sly  |  February 21st, 2007 at 1:35 pm

in reply to bassfrad’s comment i’m sorry i didn’t translate the kms in miles for you,no ofence.and i have 835.6hr’s on it,and obviously the decompression valve did take it cause it still works fine.If you don’t believe what i say, don’t care. Thanks for the heads up on the Polaris cams!

  • 32. Dockrocker  |  February 21st, 2007 at 1:49 pm

Well the power to weight ratio looks great, along with the dimensions other than ground clearance and wheelbase. Down here in S. Tx we ride in lots of mud, and I do own a Rhino (pictures can be seen at www.dieselplace.com in my garage “Dockrocker”) and have thown some coin at it. The RZR starts out with a longer wheelbase, and about 2″ less ground clearance, not good going down deeply rutted ATV trails. My Rhino has 16″ ground clearance with no more than 27″ XTR’s and the shocks set at the highest preload setting and I don’t break CV’s. But just about everyone down here that rides a Polaris 700 or 800 sportsman spit out CV’s nearly every ride. Granted the terrain is unbelievable rough, I just dont see this being a machine for this type of use. I do wish the Rhino had lower gearing or more power, as in a twin, I don’t think the 700 single from the Griz is the answer. Thats my 2 cents!

  • 33. stumpjumper  |  February 21st, 2007 at 3:57 pm

Man Dockrocker, sure is a good thing your Rhino has 16″ of ground clearance! I can’t imagine the stuff you might have to get over when you are towing your drag car! At least your alpine system won’t get wet on the way back to your pit! Your chrome wheels look awfully good for all the “deeply rutted ATV trails” you travel on!
My Ranger has over 750 hours put in on “deeply rutted ATV trails” hauling firewood, deer and elk in the PacNW and has not needed any maintenance save the normal preventitive maintenance.

  • 34. Dockrocker  |  February 22nd, 2007 at 11:39 am

Stumpjumper, yes, I don’t have any pictures loaded on there on the other duty it serves, but I will. Trust me, it gets tortured off road also. I just didn’t have any pictures handy to load on there, but i will! It gets race car duty 10% of the time, and mud duty the rest, and the chrome is holding up well, as is the Alpine system!

  • 35. Dockrocker  |  February 22nd, 2007 at 12:11 pm

I also forgot to say, I wasn’t dogging the RZR, just saying the Rhino will still have some advantages, although the majority of Rhino’s (I think) are in the open desert area’s and the RZR will run over them in that setting. I never said the Rhino is perfect, it’s not. But with a real front diff lock and quite a bit more ground clearance, it holds it’s own very well. And the ONLY gripe I have with Polaris as a company, they don’t have good reliability with the CV’s when larger tires are used. Also if you noticed in my pictures, the Rhino had 29.5 SwampLite’s on it, those came off because of the problem it had turning them in really deep mud. Not for problems at the track! LOL! Also if you don’t think it get’s put through some rough stuff, check out the HighLifter site, they are coming to Crosby (hwy 90) to ride this Saturday, and will be taking pictures, they are coming from LA to go riding here because of the challanging terrain. I am sure they will also have some new pictures listed after they get back. I will also be there, and hopefully they will get a couple shots of the Chromed and Alpined Rhino in action! LOL! Have a good one!

my plaris ranger eats up them rinosureses it goes realy way faster then them other guys things so them can cell they’re little tinos and stuff

  • 37. four4all  |  February 23rd, 2007 at 11:37 pm

all you rhino fans need to lay off the rzr. it hasnt even came out yet and you’re saying that it sucks. besides polaris designed this thing to take a beating. i have not seen any pictures of a rhino hitting big jumps and landing on one wheel and kept on going with stock components. the rhino is certainly an awesome UTV,and i was actually going to buy one this spring until i read about the rzr and realized that it was built for people who want to push things to the edge and also have a UTV that will run with sport quads easily.

  • 38. phazelag  |  February 24th, 2007 at 12:35 am

This will be a West Coast Desert machine as far as performance in a desert trails, hills, or dunes the Rhino wont be able to hold a candle. This is not meant for the drunks trying to roll over 4 seater Rhino in a slow speed party for fools. This is only good for hunters who need 50 inches, but for them not the ideal. East coast wont really see a huge need but might like it. But West Coast will sell out every year until someone else catches up. This still wont do Baja without major mods, but bone stock it blows away a rhino with 7K in upgrades. The low CG / ground clearance trade off will be fine on the West Coast. I might choose a Rhino if I still lived in Tennessee.

  • 39. 97TJ  |  March 2nd, 2007 at 9:44 am

You guys crack me up. I’m planning on purchasing my first sidexside this summer and have been doing some research to see what might suit me best. So many of you here and on the atv forums come off like first graders claiming “my dad can beat up yours”. Come on already. If Yamaha, Polaris, Kawasaki etc… were not all producing decent sidexsides, people wouldn’t buy them. Each one may have some advantage in one area or another but they all suit their intended purpose and all are capable of doing many things. So come, on stop living vicariously through your machines.

  • 40. owiejr  |  March 5th, 2007 at 10:33 am

The bed is way to small and the machine lokks kind of weird! It looks to me it is more of a play vehicle to screw around on. But hey, thats what we want for the weekend right!

  • 41. [pweio  |  March 5th, 2007 at 10:36 am

But we need something for work and play. Something that has a bed that is big enough and that is a decent size that is tough for play and work! Now thats what im talkin about!

  • 42. Chuck Wright  |  March 6th, 2007 at 4:20 pm

I Have had a new Rhino every year since they hit the market & the only thing that I wished were different , I wish the motor was a twin because of vibration.I have put over 2000 Mls. on them with no mechanical problems Except for oil cosumption after 2000 miles on the 04 & 05 .I dont know yet on the 07. By the way!-Wheres honda?????

  • 43. Mike Punko  |  March 10th, 2007 at 11:58 pm

It’s funny how all the polaris haters own Rhino’s that either have $$upgrades on them or speak about a very few bad experiances with a polaris. I’ll be the first to say, Yes I’ve had my issues with my polaris, as I’ve had with Yamaha’a and Honda’s. Does this make them batter no. What it does do, is make me choose a machine that is suited for my riding requirments. Now teh RZR is a great looking machine and boosts some impresive numbers, Even you Rhino owner’s can admit to that. But like with every new machine it requires a bit of time to show the reliability of it. That doesn’t mean the first time you see one broken down that they all suck. It means that that one machine had anissue, Possible the rider or the machine that caused that issue. I remember one ride I took where every Yamaha (5 in total) we had broke the trailer hitch and burt out the lights. But then another ride all 4 polaris’s over heated. Now does Polaris have a problem with there heating, no it was rider error that we didn’t think about checking our rads since we were riding though some thick mud. Was it a issue with teh yamaha’s, no because in the manual it says that they were driving too fast for the weight onthe hooks and the light bulbs were not factory bulbs. Now I do own a Polaris now and yes I love it, Not becasue it’s the best ATV out there, but becasue it meets my requirements of my driving style. SO before you guys compare the Rhino and RZRs agian Lets wait for teh full review and test run between the two and see after about a year which machine has the better reliability.

  • 44. sid  |  March 11th, 2007 at 4:36 pm

awesome rzr! the rolllover rhino has a long way to go to match this machine. polaris did an a-1 job here. ill have one for sure asap. my buddy just got a rhino and hates it. rolls side to side and very uncomfortable. he drove my xp today and loved it. youll see his rhino on ebay tonite!

  • 45. Tracy  |  March 11th, 2007 at 10:21 pm

Hey guys, I think this will be a good machine overall. I am a hunter also, and agree that the area in which to place an Elk is very small. But… will manage to drag it out. I have been riding ATV’s for a good many years now, owned Polaris, Yamaho and Honda and love them all. The only thing wrong now is the arthritis in my hands is keeping me from my beloved sport. This RZR looks like the perfect answer to my needs, as well as many other folks with similar issues. Thank you Polaris for this true ATV sized steering wheeled advancement in ATV riding. So guys, c-mon lets stop bashing the alternatives… there is a rig for everyone, and everyone will NOT like the same stuff.. Just Ride Happy…;0)

  • 46. caheath  |  March 12th, 2007 at 6:10 pm

good luck getting this for MSRP. lowest quote preorder so far was 10,500 not bad but 1500 over msrp

  • 47. charlie  |  March 15th, 2007 at 5:07 pm

I have been waiting for something like this for a long time. This is a great idea. Something that two people can ride togehter and have the same capabilities of a atv. I have a few friends with a rhino and it seems like it is always in the shop. And they have trouble riding with us when we are on our atv’s. I can’t wait to see one in person and take a ride. I hope all the other manufactures take note the times are changing and they may be left out in the cold.

  • 48. roger  |  March 15th, 2007 at 7:46 pm

This is exactly what ATV rider wannabee’s have been wating for! Go kart fun in a four wheel ATV side by side?? Come on people…this is just the beginning. Wait until Honda, Yamaha Can-Am and all the other players develop their own machines! This is the start of something great.
I haven’t had an ATV for 15 years but I’m getting 2 of these babies!
    Happy trails to me!!

  • 49. Dan Boone  |  March 16th, 2007 at 8:56 am

I love it…the competition makes each and every manufacture step back and look at the “other guys”! What’s this do for us? Forces them to make bigger, faster, stronger machines.
The biggest complaint that I hear about Rhino, “I wish they were twins”….well up to now they were the king of the hill with nobody to challenge them…Who wants to bet that somewhere right now there is a task squad for Yamaha figuring out how to climb to the top again and defeat all challengers and stand alone.
WHO WINS–WE DO!!! again bigger, faster, stronger machines with better features.
BY the way: If your from Polaris and your reading this, WHY don’t you offer the RZR in a Camo…you call the green one a Hunter Edition (Don’t know ANY hunters who were OLIVE DRAB anymore..sorry went out of style in World War 2)…I have a camo 700 Sportsman and the camo looks as good as the day I purchased it…can’t see any scratches or blemishes caused by trail riding…STEP UP POLARIS CAMO this new BEAST!!!
Everybody else–”Lighten Up FRANCIS”…choice is good!

    i own a stock rhino and it’s reliable.ive owned several polaris’s
and none of them are built good.those things fall apart.honda has one coming out too i think.this will only make yamaha build an even better one next time

  • 51. sid  |  March 18th, 2007 at 8:34 pm

my dealer drove this beast and he sells yamaha and honda too. all he would say is, THEY WILL HAVE A TOUGH TIME CATCHING UP WITH THIS RZR. POLARIS THOUGHT THIS OUT!

  • 52. Joe  |  March 19th, 2007 at 11:30 am

Had the opportunity to ride a rzr this morning and being a rhino fan I was scepticle. I was immediately blown away by the rzr and am totally converted.

  • 53. Dude With brains  |  March 19th, 2007 at 6:29 pm

looks to me like the guys that already own rhinos are getting a little worried. shows when the thing isnt even out yet and they are already saying their rhino is better. maybe it will haul more but its a matter of preference. The RZR will definatly haul some serious BUTT in the power and sport department. all i can say is….. TRY TO KEEP UP WITH THIS MACHINE RHINO MAN.

  • 54. neutral!!  |  March 20th, 2007 at 8:13 am

you people make me laugh, you’re all the same, those who own Honda’s think Honda is best, those who own Yamaha’s think Yamaha is best, those who own polaris think polaris is best,etc.etc….my dad can beat-up yours,c’mon people grow-up man.Like everything else, evry make, evry model has their problems. They are all made for different aplications and you do get “melons” in any make or models.

  • 55. !~!  |  March 22nd, 2007 at 2:23 pm

hey every1, i think they’re both awesome machines but i think the rzr is more of a sportier machine and if you are a hunter this machine is not so usefull because of the small cargo space but for ripping around this would be a great machine..i’m only a kid but those are my opinions. i’m sure that the rhino is a great machine beacuse i know yamaha makes good products-i am more of a dirt biker and i like yamahas products but i don’t have any favorites in this shootout type battle.i agree with another writer that both are good in different ways like a said one is sportire the other is better for hunting and i guess also proty but anyway hope the arguing stops. bye bye

  • 56. Steve Walling  |  March 23rd, 2007 at 5:16 pm

everyone has their own opinion about the machine they own and drive and that will never change . they all have their problems and yes lemons do exist . last hunting season around the campfire after a sucessful day of hunting I was bragging to my hunting buddys that drive yamahas about the ranger XP that I was planning to buy and how I would be their tow truck of off road vehichles over a cold one a machine approched and here was a polaris 6×6 pulling a ranger down the trail.after the next 5 minutes of laughter from my buddys I still could not understand what may have been wrong with the ranger. It may have simply been out of gas but I will never know . things happen but after much thought I replyed to my buddys that the ranger was simply pushing the other machine with a very stiff rope LOL I still plan on buying the ranger XP if they upgrade to the park gear in the tranny and the 800 engine or I may be buying a rzr. I will allways be a fan of polaris because of their true 4-wheel drive system it can not be beat by any other system. happy trail riding to all of you from an alaskan trail rider

  • 57. Sea7Raptor  |  March 24th, 2007 at 8:39 am

I’ll definately be adding a rzr to the arsenal soon. I currently have a raptor 700, Sportsman 700, and a 400ex. I’ve had many hondas and i dont think their reliability will ever be bested. That said, never had a problem with the yamaha or the polaris..yet. The reason im getting a rzr is simple. The wife thinks the sportsman 700 is a beast. Going down steep rocky rutted hills is like sitting on the hood of a jeep! Can be a little scary. She also doesnt like the thumb throttle as dont a million other people, so with the added comfort of a steering wheel, roll bar and sitting down rather than upright, i think this ‘TRAIL READY” machine will open doors for people who arent quite into sitting on TOP of a quad. As for rzr vs. rhino, i think these are two seperate classes. The rhino is simply too wide to fit most trails we ride as my polaris barely fits some areas. 50 in. wide opens a whole new world for sidexsides and its a good thing for our sport. If you think Yamaha or Honda arent scrambling, just watch. Thers a mint to be made in this category.

  • 58. GetR'Done  |  March 30th, 2007 at 10:17 am

I have had quads for many years and have never considered a Rhino because of the width. The new rzr looks pretty good and is getting some awesome independent reviews. I have had both Polaris and Honda quads, both are good, just personal preference. Polaris has defiantly hit the mark for individuals that want a sideXside trail machine. Don’t want to knock the Rhino’s, but not sure they can compete if you are looking for a trail machine. My wife and are considering selling our quads to get a rzr. Can’t wait until they are available in Canada (late summer 2007).

    Right on POLARIS

  • 59. Polaris XP Owner  |  March 30th, 2007 at 5:08 pm

I still stand by my first post in this thread. You can’t do everything best with only one type of machine in your lineup. Polaris has captured the best of both spectrums in the sideXside industry. The XP is class leading in the utility market and the RZR is undoububly the king of the sport side. All other brands are a little of this and a little of that. This new RZR will fill my performance needs perfectly. BTW Look at the aftermarket support already lining up for this machine! Great things are coming. In all honesty I won’t be afraid to jump the Polaris ship if the other manufacturers deliver better machines in the future. I hope the RZR will drive the others to push forward.

As for my experiences with Polaris, I have 160 hours on my XP and have NEVER had one failure. It is far from a trailer queen but does not get thrashed and abused. The EFI is great! It has started flawless in 20 below wind chills. If my machine broke down “every time” I took it out it wouldn’t take me long to look at others. Then again, some people can break anything!

    RIDE ON!!!

  • 60. Rzr  |  April 3rd, 2007 at 2:26 am

I purchased one of the first Rhinos back in ‘04 and will be in line this May for the second incarnation of these groundbreaking machines. One trip down to Hatfield McCoy country was all it took to convince me that I’d never purchase a quad again and the Rzr simply confirms this without question. Nobody talks about the simple pleasure of having your friend or loved one along for the shared experience face-to-face (two-up atvs fail here also) nor our opportunity to finally expose the young, old or disabled to the outdoors that they deserve to experience.

That, my friends…..is what side-by-siding is/should be all about.

  • 61. Justin  |  April 7th, 2007 at 12:36 pm

John, Polaris is currently working with the federal government to get the RzR changed to an atv instead of a utv. Once that happens you can bring it anywhere in the country and trail ride.

  • 62. Justin  |  April 7th, 2007 at 12:45 pm

Hey, Sly you do know that polaris dyno’s their engines to last twice as long as the competition, right? They might not be the fastest or the highest horsepower but Yamaha only expects the average user to get about 1-2 years of riding out of one of their engines, polaris expects twice that if not more. My grandfather has a 400 explorer and it hasn’t broken down yet, 10yrs old. He has only had to do regular maintenance. When is the last time you heard of someone with a banshee lasting 10 years without rebuilding them?

  • 63. Justin  |  April 7th, 2007 at 12:50 pm

by the time all of the other major manufacturers release something competitive with the rzr (sport sidexside) it will be too late Polaris will own the market for these.

  • 64. PSBD.  |  April 8th, 2007 at 8:52 pm

Hey,Justin if my grandpa had an atv it probably last 10 years also, nomater the make, there is most likely a very big difference of riding styles between your grandpa and us younger folks, and we aren’t talking 2 stroke engines here, you can’t compare a 2 stroke with a 4 stroke.ANYWAYS,I totaly agree with 97TJ and neutral, HERE WE GO AGAIN WITH THE “mine is better than yours”.It’s more about the rider, some people can break anything and everything. If i was rich, all i would need would be half an hour with a Rhino,Prowler,Ranger or the new RzR it’s gonna be dead no matter the make or model.Heck anyone who has money to throw away could do that with anything!!!!!!!!!!

  • 65. outdoorfan  |  April 18th, 2007 at 2:23 pm

I have enjoyed reading the posts on this site regarding the new Polaris Ranger RZR as well as its “competition.” It’s very typical that once someone makes a decision to purchase a product such as a UTV / ATV, they either love it and defend it with their life, or they have a less-than-desireable experience with it and hate it. There’s little neutral ground in this space. It’s obvious to me that the new Polaris Ranger RZR has caused some large waves in the UTV / ATV pond. The thing isn’t even out on the market yet and everyone already has no end of opinion about it. At a minimum, the market has taken a large step forward with the RZR introduction. Yamaha was good enough to give us the Rhino. Big improvement over the other UTV’s in “terrainability” as they refer to it. Polaris has now improved on many aspects of the Rhino with the new RZR. Maybe this will get Yamaha to make needed changes in the Rhino such as adding EFI, etc. Furthermore, perhaps Honda, Suzuki, and Kawasaki will finally take notice of the huge groundswell of interest in this space and toss their hats into the ring with competitive offerings. I hope they do. For the record, I have never been a Polaris fan. I have avoided them like the plague because of historical reliability issues. Being honest with myself, i have also really envied their performance and features. I’m definitely going to buy one of these babies. I already have money down on one at a local dealer. I am going to tell Polaris (by voting with my dollars) that I appreciate the wonderful work they did to get this machine to market and hit a product niche that I have been hoping would be filled for a long time. Way to go Polaris! Keep up the good work! The rest of you manufacturers get on the stick and see if you can do any better!

  • 66. Dune Mama  |  April 27th, 2007 at 11:03 am

Is there any way to put a back seat in this? My husband and I were going to get a Rhino so we could take our little kids with us. We have ATVs and love to ride, but the kids are always left back at camp. We were thinking on having a custom rollbar made for the RZR and seeing if we could fit a seat back there. There wouldn’t be much leg room, but hey, our kids are little. Those of you who have actually seen/driven a RZR…is this a possibility?

  • 67. Randy in CO  |  May 1st, 2007 at 8:28 pm

Outdoor Fan, you hit it right on the head. Its kinda weird how a lot of folks are so anti RZR when they haven’t even seen one yet. Based on reviews by some of the pro’s out there you gotta believe this is going to be one sweet macine whether you’re a Polaris fan or not. From what I’ve seen and read it just sounds like the RZR is going to be an absolute blast to drive so called my local dealer today and put down a deposit. I’m psyched, I can tell you that.

BTW, I’ve owned a ‘95 Polaris Explorer 400 and have never had a problem. Been to Moab, all over the Utah desert, and riding in the Colorado rockies since I’ve owned it.

Delivery is in early June and I can’t wait!

  • 68. ROB IN TX  |  May 3rd, 2007 at 10:15 am

I OWN A RANGER XP. IT HAS BEEN OVER SOME OF THE ROUGHEST COUNTRY YOU CAN THINK OF. A FRIEND I HUNT WITH HAS A RHINO AND WE BOTH HAVE PUT THEM TO THE TEST. THE RANGER WILL GO ANYWHERE THE RHINO WILL.

  • 69. Scooter rider  |  May 17th, 2007 at 6:29 pm

I am not parcial to any brand, but because of my wants, what I read about the RZR is going to be a super fit. I have tried the Rino, and it seems like a great rig, just won’t go where I want to go. My riding partner has no use of the left arm, and would be able to drive the RZR just fine. Don’t knock it if you haven’t tried it. Polaris has been around a long time, and they knew what they were doing when they began this project. The 1st year may have some issues, but by next year, they will be pretty well on I would bet. Just wish I could buy one today, I would in a heart beat. I know how I want to use it, and feel comfortable it will fit the bill.

  • 70. BOLT  |  May 22nd, 2007 at 5:06 am

    Couple Points:

    1) - FEDs can’t dictate to the states what they do with this or any best. FED standards can and regularly get bested by the state. If the Feds call this a UTV it doesn’t mean CA will allow it on ATV trails.

    2) - I want a RZR too but I don’t wanna see them on ATV trails. It’s bad enough that bikes have had all their good trails turned into mini Jeep trails thanks to quads.

    3) - This machine looks good for a lot of things. Polaris deserves credit for building models for everyone. Yamaha has been taking our money for awhile and given us NOTHING new because of lack of competition.

    4) - If Honda comes out with something same or better it will sell like crazy. Polaris coming out with this model by NO MEANS locks out anyone else.

    5) - I just hope more models will bring down prices. I am tired of Yamaha killing us on 5 year old technology.

  • 71. Scooter rider  |  June 8th, 2007 at 5:00 pm

I rode one of these today, and will have to say it was very impressive, and that if I could buy one right now, I would. Everything I have read seems right on, and I would be happy to say I was an owner of one of these. All dealers are sold out, and money down on one is what it will take to get one, and the wait could be a long time.
Good job Polaris, you have a winner, now get busy an build some so we can all get one.

  • 72. Bosco  |  June 16th, 2007 at 9:42 pm

You can find them everywhere and for less than msrp…….Everywhere!

I’ve got one coming in late June, just bought it with the baha wheels, accessary rack, front/rear bumpers, 1/2 windshield, the top, nerf bars and large baha tires…the dealed just fine, cut through ALL the salesman HYPE…it beats the Rhino, better resale too.

  • 73. Ed  |  June 18th, 2007 at 5:03 pm

After reading all the comments, my wife and I are really confused. We were sold on the Ranger, than we just became aware of the RZR. They look really good. We are getting ready to retire and want to do ruff camping and thought one of these would be good to take. Now its hard to know which one to go with.

  • 74. ggranger2004-2005-2007  |  June 25th, 2007 at 12:37 am

HAVE THREE RANGERS, CHANGE OIL AND FILTER AND IT WILL TAKE A BEATING AND KEEP ON BARKING. BY THE WAY FOR YOU RHINO OWNERS THERE HAS BEEN A PROBLEM WITH DUST GETTING IN BREATHER AND BURNING ENGINES UP. SO YOU MAY HAVE IT CHECKED OUT BEFORE THE CRITTER DIES. RIDE POLARIS OR DO WITHOUT…………………….

  • 75. Greg  |  July 2nd, 2007 at 4:16 am

Having been in both seats of a RZR, I can say that it’s an awesome machine for trail riding.

Ed, your wife may want to read what I wrote about my first impressions of being in the passenger seat:
    http://www.rzr.ca/bb/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=5

Also, you can swap the seats in a few seconds, so that if driver and passenger want to switch off, you don’t have to re-adjust the seats (requires a Torx driver).

I put a few video clips together in a short action video if anyone’s interested.

  • 77. hunter chandra  |  August 16th, 2007 at 11:24 am

i have ridden the orginal ranger, rzr, and rhino and i must say the rzr is a remarkable vehicle for recrational use. Its speed it amazing, and the power will get you anywhere you want to go on an atv. However the rhino is a more utility capable atv, it hauls more, and is made originally for work, but can be modified for advanced sport riding. Stock the rhino is like a half recreation, half work machine. Lastly the orginal ranger is the most work capable of the three, however its recreational use it non existant, unless hauling hay gived you thrills. So all in all if you want a sport vehincle, the ranger rzr is your choice, if you want to do both go with the rhino, and for strcily work and no fun go with the raanger original. I am in no way biased to any of the vehicles these are just well known facts that the companies even express. I hope this helped you decide on which will best serve your needs.

  • 78. Bruce  |  August 20th, 2007 at 5:57 pm

The dealer did give me a new bikini top. They need to be removed for transporting and if you plan on riding faster than 35MPH.
Hopefully the aftermarket people will make something durable.
Now for the melted plastic. I give them pictures and will take it in for servicing. Lets hope Polaris comes up with a quick fix..
Then I will be happy.. This is a great machine. hopefully just a few bugs…..

  • 79. Todd  |  August 24th, 2007 at 8:26 pm

In Michigan I read that the dividing line for trails is less than 50″ for trails. ORV’s 50″ or greater are excluded from trails.

Is there a way to make this 49.99″?

  • 80. Jared  |  August 28th, 2007 at 6:51 pm

Does anyone know if you will be able to put a rear seat on the Rzr?

  • 81. BrokenR1  |  August 29th, 2007 at 12:34 pm

I stopped reading part way down, too many fanboys claiming their machine is the best. I’m looking for something my wife and daughter can ride in when I take the bike out, or perhaps I can take my daughter in. Either way a side by side like this looks very fun to play in. I’m not worried about hunting or anything but having fun and being able to use quad trails for more options on where to ride.

  • 82. mikek  |  August 30th, 2007 at 7:05 am

Anybody know, if there is any speed limit for sidexside´s in the US?

  • 83. cad4life  |  September 14th, 2007 at 1:22 pm

rode in one of the polaris ranger rzr last weekend at the silver lake sand dunes and launched it about 6-8 feet and never felt it!!!! then we went back to the house and hit the trails and it sucked up every whoop the trails had to offer!!! this ride is sick and i hope yamaha, honda, kawasaki, etc. follow polaris’s lead and come out with something as good if not better! it was able to actually pass us on the trail and i was on a banshee at one point!

  • 84. John Bailey  |  September 28th, 2007 at 6:23 pm

Polaris Razar is ok but have a long way to catch up with the Rhino.
Mainly for hunting and pulling through tuff terrain.

  • 85. BHALE  |  October 8th, 2007 at 8:18 pm

I HAVE A RHINO AND HAVE NEVER ROLLED IT AND ITS BEEN THROUGH SOME BAD PLACES A POLARIS DEALER INFORMED ME HE SOLD 12 RZR,S AND GOT 12 BACK WITH BENT ROLL OVER BARS, ALL 12 WERE ROLLED , HE SAID THESE THINGS ARE DESIGNED FOR SAND DUNES , AND THEY ARE GOING TO RECALL THEM AND RE DESIGN THEM SO THE WHEELS ARE WIDER. A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE BEEN HURT BAD HERE IN LOUISIANA, LET ME THROW THIS IN LOL MY RHINO TOPS OUT AT 64MPH SO BRING ON THE RZR I NEED A SHAVE

  • 86. BHALE  |  October 8th, 2007 at 8:29 pm

I ALSO HAVE A 2002 RANGER AND I THINK ITS TOUGHER THAN THE RHINO I BOUGHT THE RHINO BECAUSE IT WAS SPORTIER IN 06 BUT I THINK THE RZR IS COOL BUT I DONT NEED 3 SIDE BY I HEAR YAMAHA HAS ONE IN THE WORKS THAT WILL PUT POLARIS TO SHAME , HOW ARE WE EVER GOING TO KEEP UP WITH ALL THIS

  • 87. Charlie  |  October 9th, 2007 at 1:23 pm

OK…everybody will disagree with me probably. I LOVE a side by side, an accelerator pedal, and a steering wheel…BUT the Rhino will not follow regular trails made by single seaters because of its width. I just wish they offered the RZR with a 400 instead of an 800. I don’t need to go 55 mph in the woods……

  • 88. BHALE  |  October 13th, 2007 at 8:02 pm

lets see a rzr do what i saw a rhino do today climb a 70 degree hill about a 40 foot distance (hello)

  • 89. BHALE  |  October 13th, 2007 at 8:06 pm

my friend has a rzr this morning he got a deer he came back to camp and wanted to use my rhino to go get the deer he said the only thing on the deer that would fit in the back of rzr was the head i thought all u deer hunting rzr riders might like this lol

  • 90. spider  |  October 18th, 2007 at 10:36 pm

how is the Rhino with a snowplow, anybody?

  • 91. jimsRZR  |  October 21st, 2007 at 9:49 pm

hey for all of you that doubt the ranger rzr it is a kick ass unit
i just bought it last friday and i sell john deere equipment for a living
it has got to be the best side x side out there you have great low end as well as great top end. oh yeah by the way you don’t have to go 55mph in the woods 30 is good enough. i am an avid atv rider as well as bikes and sleds this thing is the greatest yet. for all of you that think these things are easy to roll there not you can roll you pickup over if you don’t know what your doing. i have taken it out on all of our trails sat and today 105 miles worth and trouble freealso cleared some old river bottom trails and yes these things climb like non other while lacking no low end grunt. i’m 6 foot 3
and have plenty of room on this thing. it is totally trail ready all
i did was adjust the shocks for my weight and style and i was able to go and keep up with my buddies one had a 250 two stroke dirt bike and the others had sport quads it was no problem at all
you drive with the steering wheel as well as the throttle you can power slide the rear end around corners and tight spots in the trail i’m from nw ohio and our trails are tight and this thing is the coolest thing out there but one negative way too much $$$$ after all the add-ons if price isn’t an issue then i would tell you all to go out and get one. i bought one after i had a chance to talk to Jan R. polaris ranger / ranger rzr project manager (great insight on the product)
he sold me on the thing he told me things about desing and testing that the dealer can’t if you have questions you can call me at 419-212-4488 cell for more info. i would strongly recommend this this geat ride!!!!!

  • 92. Eduardo Garza  |  October 22nd, 2007 at 3:38 pm

    POLARIS RZR

4 OUT OF 7 BROKE THE MACHINE

7 OUT OF 7 HAS A SUSPENTION AND AIR INTAKE PROBLEM

    CLARENCE TOO LOW…

THIS IS AFTER 900 KMS. IN 3 DAYS.

    UTV´S ARE BRAND NEW..

  • 94. 4wheeler  |  October 26th, 2007 at 12:08 pm

Just bought the new rzr and love it .It spins the tires no problem and climbs beter than a ranger 6×6,I have driven a hopped up rinho and was not impressed. The rzr accelerates much quicker. No i’m not a hater, I own a 86 honda 250r 4wheeler and a 00 yamaha banshee.
The rzr will never replace my banshee(over 100hp and over 20 grand in it) but it is a fun ride and can powerslide and take light jumps with no problem. The best part is you can do it with a buddy.

I have talked to a lot of dealers and I already have wheel spacers on order. It is also recomended to get offset wheels. Also I was hoping that yamaha would come out with some kind of competition but the word is that yamaha got sued by a rinho owner and after that lawsuit another 40 or so were filled, After hearing that i don’t think yamaha or honda will be sticking their necks out for awhile.

All in all the rzr does excatly what i expected, It is aggresive side x side aimed at the sport market. As a side note i raced my buddy’s banshee(stock with pipes) and was even till he hit 4th :-D

  • 95. jim reitzel  |  October 31st, 2007 at 7:47 pm

well an update on the rzr i bought i have 157 miles on it
10.8 hrs ready for first service. still going strong i added an fmf pipe and different air filter bimini top, front and rear brush guards
polaris rope winch fuel can mount (walmart colman cooler fits it great) and the 14 inch spoke polaris alum. rims with 14 inch tires
i ran them like 30 miles and decided to take them off . the tires make the rzr a little sluggish through the tight corners and the flat out runs as well as it make the thing way to wide for our narrow
northwest ohio trails . i have my stereo head unit and speakers
just waiting for the speaker mounts and rear cargo box. i took
it back out on sunday after taking the 14 inch wheels and tires off and wow what a difference the pipe and different filter make . also 4wheeler just wondered if you think the rzr is as tippy as all of the 4 wheeling mags think. well gtg thanks again, j

  • 96. Don  |  November 5th, 2007 at 9:46 am

200 plus wide open miles with no problems
very happy with the running of the rzr
I have had it on two wheels a couple of times
but I also rolled my 69 bronco 3 times
there isnt much for ground clearance so its going to need the
    skid plate
it needs a way to lock the front diff.
and it needs a park brake its way to hard to get out of park on
    a hill
    keep the shinney side up

  • 97. Stormy  |  November 5th, 2007 at 7:17 pm

I’ve been plowing with 4 wheelers for years… and can’t wait
for this season plowing with the RZR…

Can anyone suggest a good 72″ hydrolic lift and tilt plow…

Only complaint so far is a whimpy hitch receiver and slightly twitchy gas petal

  • 99. JIM R JIMSRZR  |  November 7th, 2007 at 9:27 pm

OH YEAH I TOTALLY AGREE WITH THE PARK BRAKE IDEA
DON’T PARK THE RZR ON AN INCLINE OR A DECLINE OR YOU’LL HAVE A HECK OF A TIME GETTING IT OUT OF THE (P) POSITION

  • 100. josh wright  |  November 16th, 2007 at 5:27 pm

I’m 6′4″ and my knees are in the dash too bad to be able to properly work the gas and break, too small for me, I’ll hang with my Rhino!

  • 101. Scott  |  November 19th, 2007 at 9:20 pm

I own a 2008 polaris ranger rzr….I also have 2003 honda 500 foreman,2004 polaris 500ho, 2003 polaris predator…All i have to say is this….I’ll be riding my RZR more often than the other’s it’s a sweet machine, I can go everwhere i go with my honda and the 500ho and more, don’t need to engage the 4×4 on my rzr where i need to with the others, you’ve really gotta ride it to beleive it…I live in Nothern Canada, with have alot of trails up here, and the rzr haven’t let me down yet…1 minor problem , the gas feeder is soft, takes some getting used to…Other than that ..Great machine ! Cost me with the 14″ mags, and acc $19,000 Canadian, and worth every penny and more

  • 102. bobby  |  November 21st, 2007 at 11:50 am

im with scott, had a honda foreman 04 fully loaded im also from northern ontario. i was really hesitent with the rzr but you cant knock till youve tried it. best investment in a long shoot. love all 4wheelers but aint gonna get me out of my rzr.

  • 103. Wendell C  |  November 27th, 2007 at 2:45 pm

Alot of people say that the rzr won’t carry a load and go over things. If you want one to do that get a 700xp. The rzr is made for play not too much for work. I have used a ranger and rino in the woods and work….. no doubt a ranger is better.

  • 104. Amelia  |  November 28th, 2007 at 4:29 pm

I have a razor and when my husband first wanted it I told him he was out of his mind. We loaded it out before we ever left the dealership. We had a 2 in lift and 29.5 Outlaws with ITP SS112 wheels. We ordered a dual HMF exhaust we have a plastic top and just front lights. When I finally drove our razor I was hooked I have a Can - Am and I would rather drive the razor now. IT will out do any POS Rhino. Right now our razor is 2 months old and it is at gorilla getting a 7 in lift and 32 in. Silverbacks . It will be mudd ready so Rhinos Bring it on.

  • 105. JIMSRZR  |  November 28th, 2007 at 9:07 pm

AMELIA, ITS TOO BAD THAT YOU AND YOUR HUSBAND NEVER DROVE YOUR RAZOR STOCK WITH THE STOCK TIRES. I LOADED MINE OUT TO BUT I HAD TO WAIT ON THE EXTRAS AND I’M GLAD.
IT IS WAY BETTER AT LOW END WITH TAKE OFF WITH THE SMALLER TIRES . MY ALUM RIMS AND TIRES SET IN THE CORNER OF MY GARAGE. YOU MIGHT WANT TO LOOK AT A CLUTCH KIT TOO WITH THE BIGGER TIRES YOU’LL LOVE TH DIFFERENCE
I HAVE INSTALLED MY CD PLAYER (JENSEN) NOT TO GREAT FOR TRAILS (SKIPS WAY TOO MUCH) BUT IF YOU GO SLOW YOUR OK. I HAVE 1 OTHER ATV,2 HONDA ATC,AND ONE GATOR AND I DON’T KNOW WHY I HAVE THEM. I DROVE IT LIKE 10 MILES THE OTHER NIGHT JAMMIN TO THE CD PLAYER (WHICH I NEED TO GET THE OVER HEAD MOUNT FOR)
UP TO MY BUDDY’S DEAR CAMP IT WAS GREAT I TOTALLY LOVE MY RAZOR SPENT TOO MUCH ON IT NUT IT IS WAY WORTH IT!!!

  • 106. JIMSRZR  |  November 28th, 2007 at 9:14 pm

JOSH, I’M 6′3′’ AND ALL I DID WAS ADJUST MY DRIVER SEAT FOR ME ALL THE WAY BACK AND DID THE OTHER ONE FOR MY WIFE. THAT WAY IF SHE WANTS TO DRIVE WE CAN JUST SWITCH THE SEATS FROM SIDE TO SIDE . I WILL AGREE WITH YOU THAT THERE ISN’T MUCH ROOM FOR US TALL GUYS AND NO ROOM FOR YOUR RIGHT KNEE IF YOU HAVE THE CD PLAYER UNDER THE DASH BUT THAT IS THE ONLY NEG. YET THAT I HAVE
ALSO THE RADIATOR ON A RZR IS PROTECTED A LOT BETTER THAN ON THE RHINO I WOULD TAKE A LONG SECOND LOOK
AT THE RZR YOU JUST MIGHT LIKE IT .

  • 107. Tom Road  |  December 7th, 2007 at 6:08 pm

I’d like to hear from anyone has a Polaris RZR… can you load one in a standard pick-up truck. Does it work? are there any special problems with it?

    Thanks

I have a 2004 dodge ram quad cab short box and my rzr fits in no problem have to leave the tailgate open tho…1 Thing i don’t loke about the RZR is that driving in the snow my gas feeder froze up…the snow comes in under the dash and where the pedals go through the firewall…I blocked them all with rubber strips and seems to be ok now, Also installed tracks on my RZR , Can go everywhere with it, Actually had to tow my friends Suzuki 700 he got hung up on tires on his bike tho….

  • 109. Scott  |  December 12th, 2007 at 11:23 pm

I have had the rzr ranger for two weeks and have driven it about 186 miles, and so far i have to say it is excellent. I love its acceleration and comfort. It gets everywhere i need to go.

Pros- comfy, fun, fast, durable, unique, great 4 wheel drive

Cons- low ground clearance, a little sensitive gas pedal, gets stuck in park on inclines, gets on two wheels sometimes but if you know how to drive well won’t be a problem.

I am so glad i picked this over the rhino because even though the rhino can take a beating better and get through tougher areas, unless you want to spend a lot of money customizing it just isn’ t anywhere as fast or fun. If you want utility Rhino’s or Rangers are for you but if you want fun with a little bit of utility Rzr’s are the best.

  • 110. Harry  |  December 16th, 2007 at 11:57 am

I just got a RZR and am planning to make it street legal in Michigan. I am looking for a tilt out safety glass windshield and DOT approved tires, I think I will need to go to 14″ tires and wheels. I am considering Super Swamper SSR Radials 27×9.5×14. Does anyone know if these will fit without any problem?

  • 111. jims rzr  |  December 16th, 2007 at 9:33 pm

hey scott i was wondering what kind of tracks you put on.
we just got the winter storm here in nw ohio and i think i want tracks. i have been thinking about them since i bought the thing
but didn’t know who to go with as far as manufacturer. just wanted to know what you thought. thanks again, jim

  • 112. Scott  |  December 23rd, 2007 at 11:11 pm

Hi jim , I have the trexion tracks…they are not as good as the tracks they have now days…my friend bought a set the other day for his Suzuki 700…they lifted his bike 6in more than his tires..1 problem with the RzR is the ground clearance and the long wheel base and also the weight…If i were you go with something that is going to lift the bike for clearance…Also when driving my bike in the snow the gas feeder froze…problem was when the garage put it together the never clipped the air filter right there was a gap the snow went in melted and froze the plate on the carb…was either that or the snow went into the air intake…also snow was coming in under the dash and around the gas and brake pedal so i blocked them with a rubber tube..just cut a tire tube into wide enought strips ..seems to be ok now! we sure have alot of snow here …best of luck to ya ! I am still very pleased with my RzR !

  • 113. jims rzr  |  December 30th, 2007 at 9:11 pm

HEY IF YOU WANT YOUR RZR TO GO FASTER L
THERE IS PLASTIC SPACER IN THE PRIMARY CLUTCH
AND A SPORTMAN 800 CLUTCH DOES’NT HAVE IT
WITH IT REMOVED IT ALLOWS THE CLUTCH TO CLOSE TIGHTER
ON THE BELT QUICK EASY FREE WAY TO GET MORE SPEED.

  • 114. johnrzr2b  |  January 7th, 2008 at 6:26 pm

Could somebody out there who has a razor tell me some things about them that an owner would know instead of a brochure. My fiancee bought me a razor for xmas and I won’t get it until maybe late Feb. or early March (keeping my fingers crosseed). But I would like to hear what people who own them and drive them actually think about them.

I am 6′ 10″ tall and the razor is a bit of a snug fit, so I have tihe option before it comes in to switch to a Ranger LE if I want but where there is more leg room than the rzr there is actually less foot room on the floor. Should I stay with the razor, or switch? I could sure use some advice.

    Thanks,
    Bigun

I now own 2 rzr & they are awesome in the sand at GLAMIS. I put on spacers and offset wheels. The front is 55′’ wide & the rear is 61′’ wide. This is very stable in the sand dunes. The only problem I’ve had is I broke a belt on both rzrs. I heard that a clutch kit & performance belt is the solution. Please help

  • 116. JAY SIGOUIN PRINCE GEORGE BC  |  January 8th, 2008 at 7:14 pm

Hello poeple! all of you have some very good out-looks on the rzr, I know first hand that there are a few things that polaris could do to improve the rzr. They are in the process right know, but really there is nothing out there that can touch this thing( stock). yeh sure with enough mod’s and up-grades you can make anything you want really but when it comes to stock, there isn’t a lot that can compare. i would like to see what yamaha is going to do. i heard threw the grape vine that they are going to build a unit that is going to blow by the rzr, but i will beleive it when i see it. or better yet wait untill i put it to the test. because i have driven almost everything that vis out there and the rzr is on top, one thig i think that polaris should do is to put more of a baja style suspension where the wheels can camber side to side and up and down, with a larger off set rim making the rzr less tip-able. It has rolled once or twice accelerating very quickly into corners on hard pack, other than that it has been awesome. with afew up-grades into this unit it is very fast and i hear that gorilla is in the middle of making a lift and axle kit for this unit. possibly a big bore kit….that would be sweet. got to go. have fun everyone.

  • 117. Scott  |  January 9th, 2008 at 4:39 pm

Problem with my 2008 RZR …Gas pedal froze 3 times, opened the airbreather 3 times and 3 times water came out of the air breather, lots of water…problem is the cover doesn’t seal correctly..I call ed Polaris they said there was 2 recalls but not sure what they were, for me to phone the dealer…he is checking into it..It is not hard to see that the cover is groved where the staionary clip is and doesn’t seal…Hope they fix this problem !
when water goes in there ,it don’t run properly either…
1 of the recalls are the gas tanks can leak on certain models..

  • 118. OneBadTA13  |  January 17th, 2008 at 11:36 am

Are you people stupid? The rzr is not meant for the same purpose as a rhino or a regular ranger for that matter….it is a sport machine….you people that are bashing it saying it wont go over huge rocks or carry 9000 tons worth of gear and an animal are simply ignorant of what this thing is all about…what you are doing is the same as saying that a new raptor is stupid because the grizzley is better for carrying cargo and going over extreme terrain…its the same comparison…think before you talk

  • 119. Tracy G.  |  January 26th, 2008 at 9:30 am

Hey guy,s and gals no need to cut the RZR or the Rino down, there all good till your barried or broke, right? I been riding, working, hunting, with Yamaha and Polaris atv,s for years and I recently bought a RZR and let me tell you it is the most awsome toy I have ever bought. You can’t put a Elk or moose in the back, but after My son shot his first bull last year it pulled this 1,000lbs of dead waite out over stumps through creeks over 2 miles and with boths us in it the RZR didn’t sweat even a little. It’s really stable, not tippy has a ton off power and speed, over 71mph with the limiter removed on 27″ bounty Hunter radials, You Rino riders have to try this machine before you cut it down. Polaris engineers awsome job!!!

  • 120. Tracy G.  |  January 26th, 2008 at 10:21 am

Hey for all you deer hunters who say you can’t haul your deer in the RZR, I say why not. This year at the hunt camp I had my razor and there was six atv’s there, we shot six deer and the RZR hauled all six. Two good size bucks in back with ratchet straps anchoring the deer to the rear racks no problem with no blood on our clothing. It also went up two extremly steep rock cliffs and doesn’t even come close to tipping backwards or sideways. The routes we took to get to the deer were very tight in between trees, only an atv could go. Since the hunt in November three of the atv owners at camp have bought RZR,s. My wife and I never drive our 600 or 700 Sportmans.

  • 121. Anthony (owner of rhino and rzr)  |  January 30th, 2008 at 10:57 am

Ok……here is the deal……My Dad and I bought a rhino 700 efi. We love the thing…its way better than the rhino 660….But, 2 weeks later we bought a polaris rzr. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My dad didnt trust polaris at all…..but I did. I love their products. Now that we have it, he goes on rides and leaves me the rhino…………is that fair???? GREAT JOB POLARIS…..AMAZING MACHINE…..It also does GREAT in the sand dunes!!!!!!!!

  • 122. tim pressley  |  February 10th, 2008 at 9:05 pm

I want to trick out my razor and start racing it here in the south east of the US….. need a set of (larger) wheels and tires for my stock rzr any one have any I can get reasonable? tim@thepressleys.net

  • 123. Bob  |  February 13th, 2008 at 12:13 am

I broke 2 belts on two different rzr. Does any one know why?

  • 124. Jeremy  |  February 13th, 2008 at 6:29 pm

To the above poster, the RZR’s PVT clutch belts can break if they havent had proper break in time. For a new RZR or when installing a new belt you should take it easy for the first 100 miles or so. I break in time is crucial for long belt life. For performance Polaris RZR clutch parts check out RZR Headquarters

  • 125. Robert  |  February 26th, 2008 at 1:28 pm

I have been looking for something like this for a while. I do mostly desert riding, so I figure this might be a good fit. However, what is the most common “Out The Door” price for these without any accessories? Does anyone know?

  • 126. Robert  |  February 26th, 2008 at 1:29 pm

I’m refering to the Polaris Rzr just to calrify!

  • 127. Mike Coffen  |  February 27th, 2008 at 5:59 pm

Do not buy one. Mine broke a rod with only 58 hrs on it. polaris will not fix it. I installed a hmf pipe and they say the mod caused it to happen. When is the last time you had a rod break above the journal and is wasnt forge related? I own 4 polaris products, they are now for sale. Thats what I get for buying american..screwed again. do you self a favor a buy a rhino or a teryx, i’m sure those company’s will stand by what they build…

  • 128. Tracy G  |  March 4th, 2008 at 8:29 am

For Mike: did you contact just the dealer or the manufactor, I have owned Polaris for many years and have never had a problem for warranty. It is usually the dealer that won’t go out of their way to help not Polaris. Call customer service and raise heck with them. Besides if you already bought four Polaris you must obviously realize they are the best out there. Yamaha are under powered and will vibrate the go nads off you, and Kawasaki are just about at the bottom of the list for quality or reliability. Mike don’t make such rash decisions to sell your Polaris because deep down you know you will regret it. with 58 hours on it you already know that our RZR’s are the funnest Polaris we both have ever bought. my Razor has over 500 hrs on it and I have had zero problems. As for Robert $10,500. US & 14,500. Can.

  • 129. proud rzr guy  |  March 4th, 2008 at 7:11 pm

i must say!!! there seems to be a little bit of frustration with all the rhino guys!…..lol

i own a rzr…. my nephew owns a rhino…. listn to me…. THERE IS NO COMPARISON!!!!

the rhino is probably a terrific around the farm machine for hauling etc…. the rhino is truly nothiing more than a rattle trap to me… his rhino is only 3 mnths old and i cant hardly hear the engine over all of the rattles/squeaks… it sounds like it is 15 yrs old

as far as a performance machine… forget about it! it dont matter what type of things you would like to compare … power…. no way!!!!! handling…. no way!!! maneuverablity…. no way!!!!! comfort….no way!!! i will eat him for breakfast /lunch and dinner…. and a snack afterwords…
you would have to dump some serious money into a rhino in order to compete and still not have the performance of the rzr….

there truly is no comparison, i am not a biast person at all but i do know that as far as a sport machine the rhino is no longer a machine to be considering…

JUST THE TRUTH….. sometimes it hurts!

  • 130. Mike Coffen  |  March 12th, 2008 at 10:30 pm

Tracy G. After the warranty company said “no” the dealer called polaris. Polaris is sending a complete motor at “no charge” they agree there was some kind of “freak” flaw with the rod. So if you buy an extended warranty make sure it is from the manuf. and not someB.S. company like G.E. who’s job it is to deny coverage no matter what the mechanic tells em. Polaris said I need to pay for the labor cost, I truly feel this is a fair deal since the rzr was out of factory warranty and I commend them for standing behind thier product. I will let you know how it all turns out. bigmike

  • 131. Tracy Gadbois  |  March 18th, 2008 at 5:13 am

Thats good Mike, I,m glad for you, and yes you are wright about extended warranty there is lots of bad companies that once they get your money there is no help available. Six of my freinds have bought razors since they drove mine and they all love them. You know Mike you really don’t need any performance additions to these vehicles they are fast enough as they are, they are also very safe I rolled mine one complete roll and a half and all was ok when I put it back on the wheels. the only thing that gets damage when you put it on it’s side is the front fender because the frame in behind the plastics has an open pipe which puctures the plastic, the fix is to put some rubber cushioning between the frame and the plastic and glue it in place, talk to you later.

  • 132. Frank Copeland  |  March 29th, 2008 at 11:42 am

I own a Polaris Razor and after 50 hours on the Razor ,it has been at the dealership for over 2000 hours for repairs. It has never been crashed, just ridden hard like they show on their television ad. The dealers have no spare parts for the Razor and have taken over (2) months to get them. The chassis is not built to withstand the power or speeds that the engine produces. Polaris decides what parts they warranty and what they dont. SAVE YOUR MONEY and buy something else.

  • 133. chris d  |  March 31st, 2008 at 10:18 pm

i am interested in buying a rzr.but i would like to know if it can be made street legal in michigan.

  • 134. Tracy Gadbois  |  April 8th, 2008 at 10:55 am

Hi Frank just wondering what broke on your RZR? to keep in the dealer for 2000 hrs, also what went wrong with the chassis that makes you say that it’s not strong enough. I have one with over five hundred hours on it and I have not had any problem, so if you are having so much I will check mine for the same things. Five of my buddies have them and have not had any problem with theirs yet either. I would appreciate knowing what problems you are having before I go and buy my second one for my son. Thanks

  • 135. jeff  |  April 11th, 2008 at 8:50 pm

I own a 08 rzr My brother owns a 07 660 rhino. We went for a ride one day, dirt and mud then to the foothills to play in the snow. The yamaha had a high preformance efi box wheel spacers custom intake and same size tires on the front as the back. My rzr is stock with 14″ rims and 26″ wrangeler mud tires. After about 2/3rds through the ride we switched. I rode the rhino he the rzr. when we got back to the house he told me at least four times the rzr was fast and rode like a cady. Must say i didnt care for the aquard yamaha.

  • 136. Randy C  |  April 24th, 2008 at 9:20 pm

I picked up my RZR last week and had only a few hours to check it out in the desert of Utah.

I checked the gearbox fluids after 2.2 hours and discovered that the front final drive was really low, the Transfer Case was almost empty and the main gearcase was low. It was 40.00 worth of oil from a dealer and they told me it wasn’t their problem.

I love the machine, it runs like a madman and I look forward to owning it for years. Be Warned though, check the fluids before you run it or make your dealer do it. Not sure why they didn’t in my case.

Taking it to San Rafael Swell for a serious ride this weekend, will post how it goes.
