Eagle and Fox - the Rest of the Photos
February 6th, 2007 David King - King's Outdoor World

Last year the above photo was causing a lot of interest as it circulated around the Internet message boards and emails. No question it is an awesome photo of an eagle and fox fighting over a carcass. I have tried to locate and contact the photographer, but have not had any luck. Recently some more photos from this sequence have started making the rounds again. I have posted the rest of the photos of Eagle vs. Fox. Unfortunately I have still not been able to find any information about when, where and who took the photos. If anyone has any information please let me know.
UPDATE: The photographer who took these amazing photos is Pekka Komi from Helsinki. They were taken February 22, 2006 in South Finland. Bugle magazine also published the above photo in their March- April 2007 issue giving credit to Pekka Komi.

I ran across this in one of Birdchick’s blogs
http://www.birdchick.com/2006/12/more-on-golden-eagle-vs-fox.html
>there is a series of photos on http://www.tarsiger.com/index.php?pic_id=komi1142612071&lang=eng
and it’s said that the photos were taken in Finland by Pekka Komi. Still no back story but at least we have a name to go along with the photos.

Those are crazy pictures. That fox is way lucky if it got away. The fox is like a mouse compared to the strength of that eagle.

The fox was not lucky to get away, why would the eagle risk fighting with the fox, maybe be injured in the process when there is a good portion of deer meat still left on the ground. Its all a matter of intimidation for these two animals to see who eats the best that day!

This is very interesting ! In Chinese martial arts (which I practise) there is a throw/technique called ‘rabbit kicks the eagle’ were you use your legs to kick someone away (when you are lying on the ground) and this is a great example. Apparently rabbits have gotten away with this method — true that the fox can’t compare in strength to the eagle but I think if an animal can push away suddenly with enough force it may be enough to deter the predator in some cases, or at least to bide enough time to get away … though they *are* fighting over food in this case.

If you look in the right hand corner of the fox and eagle picture you will notice a blue Magpie, they are indiginess to Idaho, looking at the trees and animals I pretty sure that would be where the picture was taken. Maybe if you check on photos from the Stanley area of Idaho you my find the person that took the picture.

This is rather awesome, i’ve heard that the eagle can carry 4 times its own weight. I’ve never seen eagles this big and even fighting a fox… God is great to instill such strength in a bird.
It must have been a worthwhile experience for the photographer.

I know the photographer and the pictures are not by this foreigner. I got the photos from my sisters grandpa who took the pictures in Wyo. This guy was hunting at that time and took a copy. I have the originals in my email and gave them to my friends, long before they appeared online. There are actually seven picts in this sequence and my group has them all….
