I grew up rifle hunting and only recently got into archery hunting. 2007 was my first season and I’m absolutely hooked! I saw alot of deer and some nice bucks, however was unable to harvest any. I learned alot about archery hunting and am confident I will have a trophy this season! Now I prefer archery season over rifle season because it is more challenging and I see alot more deer. I also just recently discovered your website and think it’s great! I hope to submit a picture for your women in hunting in 2008.

I just wish there were more women hunters out there it’s not just a mans sport. I think It’s great that your going to do a womens issue I can’t wait to see all the other women out in the field with there great trophy animals. I have sumited a photo of my deer that I took in october 2007.

I also grew up up hunting with my family, But in 2005 started Bow hunting, and I am in Love with it! I was lucky enough to get a 2 point my first year, it was very exciting. In 2006 I did get some shots but but was unsuccessful that year, and then in 2007 I got another 2 point, now I have the confidence that I need to go for bigger bucks, It is a sport that you have to have great patience in waiting for the deer to come to you. I also hope to send in a trophy picture soon.

Like those above, I also started hunting at young age with my family. I have had many amazing rifle hunts with my dad and in 2007 we were both fortunate enough to harvest awsome bulls in Colorado. I have also been able to start archery hunting in the past few years with my husband and in 2005 harvested my first archery deer. (He wasn’t a monster, but you won’t hear me complian!!) It is an indescribable feeling to be in the woods and could only hope that more women, children and men alike can share in this experince in the future. Hunt hard, shoot straight.

I actually never shot a firearm in my life until I met my husband Ralph. I saw how much passion he had for hunting and it intrigued me. I grew up loving to be outdoors, whether it was hiking or camping or fishing, but never hunting. The more I saw him hunt, the more interesting it became. I started out just “going along”. Pretty soon he asked me if I wanted to try it out. Of course I did! I was already very competitive and this would be no different. I very quickly became a passion for me as well. What is so awesome about it is we spend time together as a whole family out there and nothing could be more beautiful. I have since harvested several mule deer, javelina and 2 elk. I started out with a rifle and now I am most passionate about archery. The biggest challeng for me has been finding equipment and gear to fit. I have yet to give up! Little by little I am finding the right gear.

I got into hunting when I met my husband. I knew if I didn’t I would never see him for several months out of the year. I would go out with him the first couple years we were together and just watch, then I thought, I can do this. I tried for a year and got nothing, my bow was so slow the deer would jump out of the way. Finally I got a new bow and practiced at home and went to 3-D shoots. THat helped a lot and I have gotten a deer every year now archery hunting. I enjoy rifle hunting too, but archery is my passion. I hope to expand my horizons by hunting turkey, bear, and antelope this year. I encourage all women to try an outdoor sport, we need more women in the field of hunting.

My dad took me with him hunting since I was a very little girl. I have continued with the trend my whole life and there is nothing better for me. I raised both of my children on my own and they are avid hunters as well, one boy and one girl. Actually I think my daughter enjoys hunting more than my son. I pack in every year by myself with horses and mules for 2-3 weeks at a time. I don’t always fill my tags, but it’s great when I do. I have been doing archery now for about 5 years, have only been able to shoot deer with it, but learning more about it every year. I too, feel that we need to get more women in the field and more women members in the NRA to help us protect the heritage.

Obviously I’m not a female hunter, but as a father of 3 beautiful girls , and a husband to my wonderful wife, I think this is an AWESOME topic to be brought up. This just isn’t something that a father and son or a bunch of good ol’ boys can go do, it is a family activity. I know how I feel when I’m out in Gods country, and we all know how great it is to share that with someone else. I just bought my wife a bow this year and my daughters are up and coming ‘huntin fools’. I think women can really add alot to the sport and the environment with the natural notion to be so compassionate. I applaud all women and girls that learn conservation, good ethics, and the love for something that so many of us men breath and dream about. Besides that, if my wife and/or daughters are out with me, that means more hunting time for me……..keep it up ladies!!!

I got my wife threw hunter saftey a few years back, so that we could spend more time together in the great outdoors, and teach are two kids together as a family about the special time hunting. My kid’s love it, they are 9 and 12, and have been hunting with me since they were old enuff to walk. Recently I submitted a photo of her with a whitetail she harvested in Idaho last year, which of course is bigger than any I have harvested. And know she has the braggin rights. Thanks for printing her picture. She’s pumped for what next year will bring!

Just back again putting in my two cents worth. It seem i have a hunting story for every thing i guess. It was about twenty years ago ,a hunting buddy and his girl freind all went hunting with me . Back then you did not see many women hunting . We all got in my truck in the morning early. ,I was surprized to see the little gal packing such big gun . I think it was a 303 british army sporter enfeild . Off we went down the logging , when we stopped the truck to take a pee , When me and buddy were out of hearing range ,I ask him can his girlfreind shoot that big gun , his reply was I dont know .Well off we went down the road again. All of sudden here runs some doe deer across the road and a very big 5×5 whitetail buck. my coffee hit the floor along with its container,I got my truck stopped .My buddy I and hopping around getting buck fever bad ,yet the little Gal remained comm and in collected mamer went to side and ahead of the truck put a bullet quickly into here gun and shot the buck, down it went . Well we were, some what shocked my buddy and I . So asked the Gal , did she get nervous. no she said , no time too. But I do feel like I,m going to puke now , after a minute our two she was ok. Off we went to see the downed buck ,125 yards later at here buck , the buck took the bullet right behind shoulder great shot . She said, that this was here first buck ,so I ask were she learned to shot like that .She said here grandfather taught her on his farm shooting tin cans ,were as she pulled out a knife ask for help gutting the deer.Granpa told me you got to clean your own game please give me a hand. Well I tell youI have seen alot things ,but she was something ,the little lady with the big gun! My Buddy did marry her ,and there still out there hunting every year. Ha Ha .

I My first time deer hunting was well after marriage. A friend of my husband invited us to go with, my husband politely refused and said that if I wanted i could go, just do it, so I did and have been hooked. I have harvested a few on my own and with a cousin and with my daughter. My husband has gone out with us but does not want to shoot the deer so I do. I enjoy the time in the woods, with and without family and friends. I also enjoy trapping, running my hounds, hunting with my JR’s(terriers), compittion hunting and shooting. These are things that I was not allowed to do growing up, as Mother always said these thing were not ment for a real lady. Hunting was a gentlemans sport and the ladies were meant to clean and cook the bounty. I don’t hold with this and have taught my daughter that she could do what ever she wanted with her life and yes, she hunt right out there with me. Thanks to my husband’s friend, guys like my cousin in WI, and the few other men in the world who believe that women can enjoy hunting and spending time in the woods. I have had to fight my family and most of the redneck jerks around here who think they know where a woman belongs

Like many others I was introduced to the outdoors by my family.
Both my parents were hunters with food for the table in mind.
I enjoy the whole experience. Sitting in the bush, watching the game, and squeezing the trigger. I recently got a bow and I cannot wait !
I am very lucky to live in Saskatchewan Canada where all types of game are in my back 40.
I will be sending you a photo or two for your Women in Hunting 2008 issue.
