Is the Spider Bull Elk Dead?
August 15th, 2008 David King - King's Outdoor World

UPDATE: 09/30/2008 The Spider Bull is dead.
The big question that is out there…Is the Spider Bull Elk from Utah still alive? There have been a ton of people asking this question. Most of the confusion is coming from message boards claiming different things, but nobody knows what to believe. A big rumor got out that a handicap hunter got this bull already. Is this true?
No it is not. As of today (Friday, Aug. 15th) this bull is still alive. However, tomorrow is the opening of the elk archery season here in Utah. Believe you me, it is going to be even more crazy this weekend.
There is a good chance this bull could get knocked down on Saturday or over the weekend. I will keep you informed as to how things pan out and if and when the legendary Spider Bull is dead or not.
Should we start taking bets on how long he will last…or even yet will he survive the season altogether?
Win a Great Prize!
Hey, that is a good idea. You make a comment post below, include your real email address, and tell me what date he will get taken by a hunter. As a tie breaker also list your “guess the score”.
Here is an example:
September 15th, Score 465 gross
Free King’s Core Hunter Backpack

I will throw in a nice prize. How about a King’s Core Hunter Backpack in your choice of Desert, Mountain, or Show Shadow Camo.
Good luck. Need a closer look, make sure you check out the Video of the Spider Bull here.
UPDATE: 09/30/2008 The Spider Bull is dead. He was just taken. Stay updated on this blog for details. After the smoke clears and we get the full confirmed details, we will see who was closest on date and score. Those who posted on Sept. 30th may not be valid because word got out today and some got word of the score. I’ll see how things go.

Poor bugger! If he is on private could be saturday. Probably coming in to a salt lick or tank by now. If he is on public he might make it to the rifle hunt. But we all know that Doyle or whoever is guiding the Gov. tag Sportsmans tag or anyother tag the DWR has auctioned off will get it before then So September 2 458 gross

473 1/2 gross 8-26-08…but any time before 9-1-08 would be great so that those who buy elk at for unreal amounts of money, write it off as a tax deduction, put their picture on the cover of a magazine and act like they are a real hunters because they can pay some “Big Game Pimp” to go baby sit the bull for another unreal amount of money and put it on their most recent “Hunting” video.
I hope a Young Hunter, Disabled hunter, Old hunter, or any hard working sportsman who enjoys the true art of hunting is able to tag this bull…or that he lives to pass on his awesome traits.

He didnt get that big being stupid he was just getting the best food he possibly could which was right in the middle of people. If this was a ranch bull why would you be stupid enough to let him go as big as he is. I have a buddy that lives on an elk ranch and he knows how hard it is to get a bull to four hundred points. besides on a shooter ranch that bull would break the scales on a price a four hundred class bull is worth about five hundred grand. But if this bull gets taken this year he will score 611 he is so big and massive you cant really get a judgement on him. But if is that big he will head out with the first stalk put on him and make it another year.

sept. 16th, 421 3/4, and if someone pays for a gov tag that cost 50 or 60 grand for it, it should not count in the books. thats not fair chaise. its not fair chaise if only 1 % of hunters can pay that much to hunt.
113. TDH | September 15th, 2008 at 1:36 pm
I agree with Ben……sooner or later someone has to start addressing these big money auction tags, and the record books.
Same thing with the Arizona antelope….Look at the books, full of guys dishing out $50-$60K, to go out and buy a record.
Outfitters even have pics to choose from ahead of time….
What’s the difference…Fair Chase is Fair Chase, good cause, fenced in or not!
That would be a great new Blog topic!
Strip the velvet off the spider bull in the pics, and the new Washington State record monster looks just as big.
So I’ll say September 19th and 451 gross.

The spider Bull was killed this morning at a little after 7 AM. I got a chance to see him in the back of a pickup truck at Jorgensens Honda here in Richfield. I was told by the Mossback guys that it green scored at 503 3/8. Taken by a gentleman from Idaho Falls that bid on and won the Governers Tag for around 150 K.
