Casey Brooks with his 2009 Archery Elk
Casey Brooks just emailed me these photos of his monster bull elk he just took with his bow. I enjoy the phone call I get from Casey every year as he tells me about his trophy elk adventures for the season, then we shoot the breeze on the big bulls going down. Once again Casey has arrowed a great bull. Too many to count now when it it comes to big bulls taken with a bow. This year was no different as he took this bull elk on the last day after several days of hard hunting. The rut was tough this year for many and Casey gutted it out with this massive bull that scores 401 2/8 SCI.
The impressive thing on this bull in particular is the mass. This thing is a toad. The bases are like tree trunks and when you add it all up you have 72 5/8 -inches of total mass. You have to appreciate mass to really understand 72 inches. On average, a big bull will have 60-inches of mass. You get into the 65 plus and you are really heavy. But getting over the 70 inch mark is quite the accomplishment. And these are legitimate scores to boot.
Enjoy some pics of truly one massive bull.

Since it lists the score as SCI I assume we are to gather that it was a captive elk.

This bull was taken fair chase, not high fence, on private ground. Many people, especially with elk, are using more and more the SCI scoring system for their score. Sorry, usually if I do mention an SCI score I will specify free range or not just so there is no confusion.
Hope this helps.
