Video World Record Muzzleloader Typical Elk

Here is a short video clip of Doug Degelbeck’s world record typical muzzleloader bull elk. This bull was taken September of 2006 on a self-guided public land hunt in Utah. The video was taken shortly after Doug had his bull officially scored at 417 7/8 gross and 412 7/8 net typical B&C. This elk is the third largest bull on record as a straight 6×6 point. What a beautiful elk!

You can read the full story on Doug’s hunt in the current issue of Hunting Illustrated (April/May 2007) out on newsstands now.

You will also be able to see Doug’s great bull in the upcoming 2008 King’s Bull Elk Calendar.

Video Yamaha Grizzly 700 Winner

People really do win cool stuff here at King’s Outdoor World. Here is a video showing our Yamaha Grizzly 700 ATV winner from the contest we had at the Hunting and Conservation Expo back in January 2007. This video shows the winner, Brad Stocks, sitting on his new Yamaha Grizzly 700 FI ATV with the industry first power steering. This video is from the day that I dropped it off to Brad.

The unique thing about this ATV is that is it the only one dipped in our King’s Desert Shadow Camouflage right now, and we ended up giving it away through our Hunting Illustrated Magazine along with the great support from Yamaha. Congratulations Brad.

Utah Has a New State Record Archery Elk!

For those of you who attended the Hunting and Conservation Expo in Utah two months ago, you had a chance to see many of the record elk that came out of Utah in 2006. However, one record bull that was not there and not too many people have seen is the new Utah state record typical archery bull elk.

Aaron Cox arrowed this massive typical bull elk in Utah during the 2006 season. He got the bull officially scored on November 4, 2006 and was kind enough to stop by and show me his great elk shortly after it was scored. The official score is 404 5/8 gross and 391 0/8 net typical P&Y as a 6×7. If you can believe it, Aaron’s bull beat out the current archery state record by just 1/2-inch.

Here is a short video clip of this new state record bull elk the day it was officially scored. You can read the full story in the current issue (April/May 2007) of Hunting Illustrated Magazine which is on newsstands now. It will also be featured in the upcoming 2008 King’s Bull Elk Calendar. Congratulations Aaron!

Side Note: In the video clip, I mention that Aaron’s bull has 70-inches of mass. This is incorrect. After adding up the score sheet, the bull actually has just over 65-inches of mass. Just wanted to clarify that as I try and keep things accurate as possible when it comes to scores, etc.

How massive is 65-inches? Well, let me do some comparison. For those of you who picked up a copy of the current issue noticed that we included the whole score breakdown on all of our featured elk. We featured the world record typical muzzleloader bull scoring 412 7/8 net typical. We also featured a monster non-typical archery bull from New Mexico that went 403 7/8 net. Also included was the amazing score of John Shirk’s Pennsylvania bull that taped at 442 7/8 net B&C. Out of all of these bulls, Aaron Cox’s bull carried the most mass by a couple of inches. That is pretty impressive!

For those of you who have not picked up a copy of Hunting Illustrated, I suggest you give it a try. Our current issue is our “Best of 2006″ and is packed with stories on huge big game animals . When Eagles Attack

Back in August I did a post about Eagles. This post was a follow up to an article in our Hunting Illustrated Magazine by Michael Burrell talking about the potential for Eagles to be predators to the vulnerable deer. I recommend you check it out and read the comments of some great first-hand experiences about how powerful these Eagles really are.

Here is a video clip that might showcase a little bit about the predator abilities of Eagles and Falcons.

My Wyoming Antelope Hunt

Here is some footage of my Wyoming Antelope taken the end of October 2006. It was a fun hunt. A storm came in and the temperature dropped to just 4 degrees and the wind was steady at 30 miles per hour. Very cold, and the wind was driving the antelope all over the place. I was fortunate to make a nice shot at over 320 yards on this pretty 14 inch pronghorn buck.

This clip was just taken with my small photo camera and therefore isn’t the best, but is quick and slick for posting on the blog. Travis Osmond was with me and ended up getting the whole thing on film. If I get some time I will try and edit down a short video clip of the hunt and the pretty cool kill shot footage.

I would like to thank Hazer. I was shooting one of his custom guns and it shot flawlessly. He really knows his stuff when it comes to guns and ballistics.

If you need a custom gun made contact Hazer at Bison Barrels located in Gillette, WY (307-687-1176).

Dandy Buck from Colorado

I just got back from seeing a very nice mule deer my friends and neighbors took in Colorado. Chad and Brandon Olson, along with Carl Hermansen put together a great do-it-yourself public land hunt and came home with two nice bucks. Here is some footage of one of the great bucks they took. I scored it at 191 2/8 gross non-typical with a 30 1/2-inch spread. What a great buck. Sorry, the footage is kind of dark, but what do you expect at 10:30 at night with my photo camera.

Elk Scouting Footage

I am heading out in the morning for an elk hunt. My brother Rob drew a Bookcliffs tag in eastern Utah and I am tagging along. I can’t wait to get out there. We have a storm coming in right now and it is going to drop in temp and really get the bulls going. We are heading in with horses in the roadless area and going in deep. Wish us luck. Here is a little clip from last week from one of Rob’s scouting trips.
